Setting Goals

Posted by Stephen Walker Life Coach Over 1 Year Ago

Today I want to share the G.R.O.W. Model. The G.R.O.W. Model is perhaps the most widely used coaching model around the world. This model was first promoted by Sir John Whitmore in the 1980s. I think it can be helpful to apply in achieving your goals. Here is the summary:

Goals—What do you want to achieve?

        Reality—Where are you now?

        Options—What options do you have?

Way forward—Which choices will you make?

Some more details may help with understanding and implementing the process implied by the G.R.O.W. model.

Goals:

What do you want to achieve?

When do you want to achieve it by?

How do you know when you have reached your goal?

Are your goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic/Relevant, Time bound)?

Reality:

Identify the GAP between your current reality and the goal you have set yourself to achieve.

What beliefs, habits, and behaviours are critical to change to achieve your goal.

Options:

Think about the possible challenges, obstacles, and setbacks you may face and decide how you will handle them.

Identify your resources and how and when to use them.

Way Forward:

Now it is time to commit to take actions towards your goals. Chunk your actions down into milestones and set deadlines for each milestone.

Now you are ready for achieving your goals. Remember—goals are there to inspire you, not to beat yourself up with! Also a coach can help you get their faster.
