Vicky Franklin Bowen Technique

Vicky Franklin
Bowen Technique Practitioner in Worcs

It is with great pride that I am able to treat horses, riders, dogs and humans with Bowen Therapy as it is something that I am passionate about.

Home visits are part of my ethos - I will come to you when it suits you.

I have always been very interested in the alternative and complimentary therapies and finally I jumped on the Bowen bus in 2012 in search of a more natural way of healing. I wanted to ultimately focus on horses and riders, but to do this I had to qualify treating humans first Initially I viewed this as an annoyance as I just wanted to fix horses, but I found myself deeply engaged in my 'human practice', and it is still one of the most satisfying parts of my journey. In 2017, I also branched out to include Canine Bowen so I can also offer support to our doggie friends !

The gentleness and effectiveness of Bowen has been a revolution for me, as during my basketball career I had only been subjected to the standard push / pull / click method of 'apparently' fixing things that never seemed to last. Bowen lasts and it's gentleness means that it is a perfect therapy for animals.

I have been a horse rider for over 50 years, the last 16 of these reaching BE Novice and U/A Dressage Elementary level with my old horse. I have owned my young horse since he was a raw 2 year old, training him to be the dressage diva he has now become. It is my greatest pleasure to work with him so that we do what he is capable of doing rather than what I want him to do. I also keep two lamanitic Shetlands, who keep my two boys in check and who are a total delight to own.
I am fully qualified in Equine Bowen, and I use that in conjunction with my vast experience of riding school patterns and training horses to develop strategies for not only fixing horses but also for rehabilitation. It never ceases to amaze me how many crooked riders cause crooked horses - or is it the other way round !! As an addition, I am also a fully qualified Canine Bowen Practitioner and although I don't see many dogs, it has significantly boosted the efficacy of my horse and human work.

In 2018 I was approached to teach the McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release technique - not only to humans but also to horses. This MSTR is a superb technique for releasing any scar tissue and resolving those issues associated with scars - for example, back pain can be directly attributed to an appendix scar !

Approach to Bowen Technique & How I Work

I work holistically !!
If you come into my human clinic, I will watch you walk in, how you sit, how you hold yourself and I will watch you as you talk to me about your condition. I will gather as many little clues as I can and relate them to the physical state that I feel under my fingers. You will get the treatment that your body requires. I will always be honest with you and if I feel you need more, I will book you for more. If however, it is not the treatment for you, or I feel there is nothing more I can do for you, I will tell you. I will never chase you with a diary - you will get what you need - nothing more and nothing less !

If you are to call me out to your horse, I will also be looking at the whole picture. I will look at the horse move - either under rider or in hand, and I will look at the tack, the feet, the feed and the general condition of the horse. In my experience it is the management, the feeding, the feet and the movement that is critical to maintaining a healthy horse. Again, if you ask me to look at your horse, it is your horse that I have a duty of care to. I will be honest with you and if there is an area of concern, I will tell you - nicely ! Similarly, if I feel there is nothing I can do, if the horse doesn't need me, or if there is someone else that I would like to refer you to, then I will also tell you.

To treat your horse I have to gain veterinary approval and on completion of treatment there will always be a vet report, submitted to the vet for your horse's records.

I am happy to talk about horses, Bowen and how the two interact for hours and there will always be hand outs and diagrams available to support further work and rehab if required. My work is the most exciting and satisfying thing that I have ever undertaken and once on my 'books' either horse or human will always have my support.
