Geeta  Gajwani
Counsellor in Harrow

My name is Geeta Gajwani, I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Counsellor. I have acquired a broad range of experience, working with varied (general & complex) patient concerns in therapeutic settings, some of these settings, have included NHS primary care, private care, and third-sector care services; whilst I work with most areas of psychological and emotional health, my areas of expertise lie in treating anxiety, depression, traumata, perinatal and reproductive difficulties.

I offer individual one-to-one counselling/psychotherapy on either a short or long term basis to those experiencing a broad range of predicaments/concerns including anxiety and depression, trauma, difficult childhoods, loneliness, limited assertion skills, health anxieties, stress related physical ailments, life transitions, family problems, bereavement, cultural dynamics, disordered eating, fears and phobias and those clients/patients who find it difficult to form or sustain intimate/emotional relationships with others. Some clients have not encountered such difficulties in the past, others have and attend, as they are conscious of repeating old patterns that do not benefit them or have bothered them for a while. In these circumstances there might be issues of perfectionism, fears of failure/criticism, lack of acceptance, being isolated, not loved or abandoned. I work with a wide range of clients, from those who need some emotional support to those who suffer quite acutely, having endured traumatic experiences and are fairly distressed as a result.

How can therapy help me?
Sometimes life can hurl difficulties our way and leaving us feeling distressed/conflicted, confused and exhausted and at other times our thoughts and feelings may seem out of balance to the event that triggered them or do not seem to begin from anything specific at all. We dwell in a society that is engrossed more and more on finding solutions and this can often lead to a deep repression of thoughts/ feelings. Many clients who come to see me feel stressed by the constant social demand to appear happy and optimistic.
Therapy is way of caring for our inner selves/souls, it can help to gain stability and insight into our torment/suffering and will assist to identify your needs by providing you with independent free expression when dealing with or reacting to difficult or disturbing circumstances or just managing your life in general.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

Counselling and Psychotherapy is, at its core, a relationship; an alliance, where we work collaboratively to explore your needs and concerns. Research has demonstrated that clients who have a positive experience of the therapeutic relationship are those who are much more likely to benefit from therapy. One of my main objectives is to facilitate clients/patients towards a greater appreciation of themselves and others. Having been fortunate to be trained in a pluralistic way, my work is informed by using a combination of psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, and integrative approaches. These approaches examine thoughts that underlie human behaviour, emotions, feelings, dreams and how these might relate to early experience. In addition, our patterns of behaviour or relating may restrict / hold us back in many different ways. Through exploration and understanding how and why this is occurring, these patterns can be worked on. My role is to listen to your lived and learnt experiences, help and encourage you contemplate, recognise, explore and heal inner wounds that may stem from your early life or past that are affecting you today and helping you to gain insights and alleviate any distress. I will work with you by delivering either short, open-ended therapy to suit your individual circumstances and most importantly your needs. Please visit my website for more information - www.petalscp.com.

Taking the first step may feel difficult. I understand that and I am happy for us to talk on the phone to start with. Prior to starting any therapy, you and I would have an initial consultation. The initial consultation is an opportunity to get to know each other better and explore your needs and answer any questions you may have in a secure space without any obligation to continue.
