Carol Pletz Massage Therapy

Carol Pletz
Massage Therapist in London

My interest in acupuncture began following 10 years of practicing Qi gong and a successful acupuncture treatment for a long standing muscular problem.

I have Masters (MSc) and BSc (Hons) degrees in Acupuncture from the University of Westminster. I found that the Masters level study improved my understanding of history, philosophy and the theory of acupuncture and developed my clinical reasoning and research skills further. I have since undertaken many courses in additional acupuncture techniques, moxibustion, cupping and massage and as a professional BAcC member continue to update my skills with continuing professional development.

I am employed as an acupuncturist at St Christopher's Hospice where I helped develop and run the Acupuncture Drop in Clinic for out-patients.
I previously volunteered at St Christopher's and at St Joseph's Hospice as an acupuncturist.

I combined my love of travel with acupuncture by volunteering at the Ananda Nagar Acupuncture Institute in India.

I am listed by health insurance companies such as Vitality to provide acupuncture treatments.

Approach to Massage Therapy & How I Work

The focus I learned from Qi gong has influenced the development of my skills as a practitioner, but observation, stillness, meditative practice and contemplation have always been with me.
Beyond the holistic principles and practice of acupuncture I am interested in the collaborative aspect of the client/practitioner relationship and mindful practice/Qi Gong.
I use various techniques: Classical Chinese, Western, Dr Tan, Yuan, facial, ear etc along with TuiNa massage, moxibustion, cupping and electro acupuncture.
Each patient is approached as an individual and having a board repertoire of approaches helps tailor my treatments.
I see my work with patients as a collaboration, a journey toward helping their systems rebalance so as to alleviate or remove the problem. The needles can be a catalyst to the bodies' systems to kick-start this process which may, along the way, include some lifestyle alterations too.
I believe acupuncture is a great way to complement Western medicine it is not an alternative.
Increasing the understanding and integration of acupuncture within Western medicine is one of my aims and is partly behind my decision to provide acupuncture within the hospice system.
