Mathias Chopin
Psychotherapist in London

I believe I am not just an experienced therapist but also a therapist that so far has been an effective one (which is really what would be in your best interest to find!)
I have had, and I am pleased to still have enough positive clinical results to believe that I am doing a good enough job. I am proud of my work and take it very seriously. I am here to assist you explore ways for you to change the things that you are unhappy with in your life. This means we need to identify and understand the mechanisms that keep you stuck. We need to understand why they are there, and even more importantly think about how to go about changing these. And then DO IT! I am committed to help you and encourage you to keep working at it. It will take as long as it needs to. This is your one and only life. Whether you choose to work with me or someone else: Do not wait any longer!

My approach is based on research-evidence that supports it. It emphasises progress rather than 'feeling good as soon as possible'. This requires hard work on both our part as we work together as a team.

I am a UKCP accredited psychotherapist, accredited psychosexual and relationship therapist with the College Of Sexual and Relationship Therapists - COSRT (www.cosrt.org.uk) and a cognitive behavioural therapist with membership of the British Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy BABCP (www.BABCP.com) and the Association for Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-AREBT (www.REBT.net). I work closely with a consultant psychiatrist for any referral for psychiatric assessment and for prescription of psychiatric and sexual dysfunction medication, only if needed.
I have worked as a psychotherapist in NGOs, the NHS and in private practice for 15 years. I also have 9 years experience working in sexual health for the NHS.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

I use Cognitive Behavioural therapy combined with humanistic integrative psychotherapy. We discuss your present, your past an your future. I use all the tools and knowledge I have accumulated over the last 15 years to help you look at your current problems, identify options, explore how these would pan out and help you adapt in the best possible way to any change you are struggling with. I am a no-nonsense, to the point therapist, kind, very open-minded and challenging. I am authentic, I interact with you, my sessions are active and involved. I don't embody the 'traditional therapist' in the sessions. My personality and most likely my humour will come out- I won't be like a blank canvas. At the same time I take my work very seriously. I am hoping that by the end of the session with me you will have a sense of my commitment to do my best at assisting you and that you will have felt accepted and engaged from the start.
