Mary-Anne Nickerson Verified Therapist

Hello my name is Mary-Anne Nickerson and I have been working as a qualified and accredited therapist for over 10 years initially working in Surrey and Berkshire and now I have a practice in East Dulwich at Studio 207, 207 Lordship Lane SE22 8HA in Partnership with Dulwich Counselling Service (South East London).
If you are reading this now, then you have made an emotionally intelligent first step to seek help which takes courage. I am here to help you face your challenges whatever they may be in a safe and confidential setting. I am able to listen to anything that concerns you and encourage you to make important decisions in your life. I have a wealth of experience and knowledge to help you tackle a wide range of issues such as: Anxiety, Depression, O.C.Ds, Post Natal Depression, Relationship difficulties, Anger....and many more.

Background & Qualifications

Many moons ago I achieved a BA Honors in Communications and Cultural Studies from UWEA then retrained in 2004 to become a Counsellor and qualified with a Higher Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Guildford College of Higher Education in 2006.
Since then I worked for Womens' Aid working within the field of Domestic Violence and underwent a great deal of training to support women and enable them to change their situations. I then set up Private Practice in Woking at The Corner House (a community support center) and simultaneously took on a role for the Church of England working with young people in schools across 5 different schools in Surrey, mostly these were young people (11-19 yrs), who faced a range of different issues but needed counselling support. I underwent a range of training to work with young people and often worked creatively when language seemed a barrier to expressing feelings.
In 2011 I was employed part time whilst continuing my private practice by Horizons Drug and Alcohol prevention and support service in Wokingham Berkshire - in this position I set up a counselling service of voluntary counsellors and was Lead Clinician providing counselling for clients overcoming Addictions.
After that I moved back to SW London, I took on a role within the NHS for an IAPT service providing short term therapy, specifically for clients suffering from Depression and Anxiety. When this service folded, I decided to build my private practice and embark on further training. I set up my practice from The Vitality Centre in Wandsworth and underwent specific training in the field of 'Infertility' since many clients came to this holistic center for acupuncture, yoga, massage and it is of particular interest to me. I embarked on some additional training with BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association) at supporting couples with counselling as they experience infertility issues and treatments and I also support Endometriosis UK (A charity) and have delivered counselling training to their helpline workers. I have been on numerous CPD training workshops including couples therapy with Tavistock, Brief Solution Focused Therapy and last year I gained an NLP foundation certicate, have attended Mindfulness training and completed a Certificate in Clinical Counselling Supervision.
I am always looking at what might best support my clients and genuinely enjoy my work and learning.

Most recently I have taken a part-time role working for both The London Women's Clinic and The Bridge Centre as their specific trained Fertility Counsellor providing support for patients going through assisted conception treatments.

I have been an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist with The British Association Of Counsellors And Psychotherapists since 2011 and have recently made application to be an accredited BICA therapist (
