Avoid the January Blues, Stay with the Joy of Christmas Instead

Posted by . . Over 1 Year Ago

My purpose of writing a blog is to share the message that peace of mind is possible, and I believe in turn, so is peace in the world.

Every year I have suffered with the infamous January blues, the slump you feel as the excitement and magic of Christmas dies down and there are no distractions left hiding the feeling that something is missing in life. This year is different; I know that January, and every other month of the year for that matter, can be just as positive. I am excited to step into the New Year with a new found self-belief and zest for life and you can too.

Today as I prepared to write my first ever blog I used my Angel Therapy Oracle cards by Doreen Virtue. I picked out the Earth Angel card which confirmed my life purpose was to teach about love. It went on to explain that the key to teaching about love is to first feel it for yourself and your life. I also believe this to be true of peace of mind, before we can have genuine peace of mind and offer love to others we must first feel it for ourselves. I know this to be true as I have been on my own journey of self-acceptance and now can honestly finally say I love and believe in myself. This inner peace means I am now more capable of living my life purpose to the full and offering authentic service to others. My Oracle card further explainedyou don’t have to say a word, write a book or work as healer in order to positively affect others. You merely need to be loving and compassionate in your interactions with others’. Whatever your purpose in life is, which will bring you your inner joy, satisfaction and peace of mind, it starts with love, and most importantly love of yourself. In truth love is all there is.

My first blog comes at a good time to share with you a poem I have written to sum up my thoughts on the beauty of Christmas and the warm feeling which surrounds this time of year which we probably miss when the January blues hits as the Christmas spirit fades.

What Christmas means to me

  • Christmas to me means togetherness.

  • It is that warm feeling in your heart, as bright as the open fire.

  • It is the joy of bringing a smile to someone’s face with a simple “Merry Christmas”.

  • It is the sound of children’s laughter outside, as they play with their favourite toy from Santa.

  • It is the smell of festive food filling up the home, cooked with love to feed the soul.

  • It is the celebration of hope for a peaceful world, where we act from love and share with all.

  • It is the glimpse into our natural heart as the choir sings and we share a smile.

  • It is the candle light that lights up the night sky with wonder.

  • It is the graceful fall of the single snowflake that holds the entire world within its simple beauty.

  • It is the desire to give from our heart, and to find it within our heart to forgive.

  • It is the part of us all that loves joy, peace and laughter, drawn together to share this special moment.

  • It is the child within each of us, reminding us of what life is really all about, telling us that everything is ok.

  • Christmas to me means faith in each of us to love and be loved, to cherish our beautiful life and those we share it with.

May the magic of Christmas stay with us as we step into our New Year and beyond!

The essence of why Christmas is so magical includes things that we can continue throughout the year, but for some reason there is a consensus that we will just save these wonderful human qualities for Christmas…

Happiness for life not just for Christmas

  • Get together with family and friends
  • Give a gift from your heart
  • Make someone smile with a good deed
  • Give someone a hug and wish them all the best
  • Send a card with words of well wishes
  • Share wonderful food
  • Sing songs
  • Play games
  • Let your childhood imagination run free

Christmas has a special magic and it wouldn’t be the same without that extra special something in the air that is different to other times of the year, but I believe the essence of the peace, joy and togetherness that we find at Christmas can be maintained throughout the year. All we have to do is choose love, in everything we think, say and do. Listen to your heart, it will guide you. As I mentioned earlier it begins with self-acceptance. I will share with you the exercise I did this morning after following the advice on my Oracle card…

An Exercise of Self Acceptance

‘Take a pad of paper or open a blank word-processing document on your computer, and write down everything you can think of under the heading: “What I like about myself”. Include every major and minor trait you can think of that you find positive about yourself. It is a private list so admit characteristics that you might normally feel shy about revealing. Then erase or cross out the word Like in the papers headline, and replace it with the word Love. Frequently review and add to this list of reasons why you love yourself’ (From Doreen Virtue’s Angel Therapy Oracle cards)

As we enter the New Year think about the best thing you could do to truly nourish yourself and accept self love. Think of that one thing that really makes your heart smile, that dream, that something you’ve always wished to do or try. You know what it is and don’t talk yourself out of it, DO IT! Now is your time, even if just one small step towards it today like researching a new course you’ve thought about signing up for or buying your first paintbrush, whatever it may be. Listen to your heart, do what makes you truly happy and the rest will flow.

Happy New Year everyone!
