I have been practising for over 15 years as a professional therapist. My work has covered private therapies, volunteering (e.g. with a cancer charity CLAN, with the Community Holistic Health Project, CRISIS at Christmas) and now with our own Low Income Clinic at A Therapy for You in Leith. Our clinic provides low cost therapies to help those who would not otherwise be able to afford them.
I am a Reiki Master and together with my colleague Ann Fowler Reiki Master am trained to deliver and teach The Usai System Of Natural Healing up to Master level. As a qualified teacher I am also able to and to deliver and teach basic Indian Head Massage moves. Like most therapists (some of whom can offer multiple therapies) I have trained in other areas eg: at technician level qualification to deliver Body Talk Access, and over the years have attended a number of seminars and workshops on the use of crystals, how to work with those affected by cancer and with pregnancy and childbirth.
My therapies of choice are Reiki System of Natural Healing and Indian Head Massage
Why Reiki and Indian Head Massage?
Reiki It is said that the system is around 2500 years old and was practised by Buddhist monks. The system was forgotten and rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. He was a Christian headmaster and minister at Doshai University in Tokyo. Dr Usui made detailed instructions as to how and where Reiki should be given. Today the Usui method is practised according with some western adaptations guided by his successive Reiki Masters.
The advantage of Reiki is that can work on all levels to create mental, physical and emotional balance. Thus issues as diverse as indecisiveness worry, problem-solving, headaches, poor sleep habits, dealing with pain and more can all be addressed. It can be particularly beneficial with cancer and pregnancy and childbirth
What happens with Reiki?
Firstly Reiki is given with love and a prayer that the healing love will work to help the patient deal with the problem. The principle is to find out where there is dis-ease and channel universal energy as healing energy so that the body can heal itself. In itself it may seem like a very nice relaxing experience that will give the patient a good night’s sleep. However it is working with the body to clear the charkas so that the energy points of the body can work naturally. The practitioner is channelling the energy to this purpose but also covering on all the main organs. The Reiki can be given hands on or hands off. If hands on, the practitioner uses a very gentle touch.
All therapies start with a patient history and a discussion and agreement about the treatment to be given.
Firstly an intention is set and this can be told to the therapist or held by the “patient”. This therapy, given lying down, or sitting fully clothed, usually to soft music and a candle to give a nice relaxed atmosphere. The practitioner will work through 15 hand positions balancing the 7 main chakras and ensure patient comfort at all times. A glass of water and a “short feedback” session is essential following a treatment. Further appointments may be made as appropriate.

Indian Head massage is generally a seated therapy often given on special a massage chair. This therapy can be given through clothing or with direct skin contact. With direct skin contact oils, creams or waxes will usually be offered. If it suits the “patient”, precious essential oils may be added if appropriate.
After finding out if there are particular requirements and checking on the depth of pressure desired the practitioner will work on the neck, head, shoulders, upper arms and hands or face:
Each treatment area may require a different level of pressure of touch from feather light to more intense and the patient is consulted every time.
