Arts Therapist in Plymouth

I am a fully registered Art Psychotherapist and I provide confidential, one to one art therapy and eco art therapy with adults and young people as well as facilitating group work, workshops and presentations. I am an experienced art psychotherapist with seventeen years experience of working in the NHS and seven years experience in private practice. Art therapy is a recognised treatment for many kinds of mental health problems and emotional distress. The process is gentle and yet powerful, promoting self expression, self development and increased insight into difficulties.

You DO NOT have to be good at art to take part in art therapy. Simply exploring the materials and playing with mark making with the support of a therapist can help to make sense of unconscious thoughts and feelings. Sometimes a dream might be explored or a guided visualisation. It can be particularly supportive when you are feeling stuck or when you simply don't have the words to describe how you feel.

Background & Qualifications

I have completed specialist trainings in psychodynamic art psychotherapy, in research, in compassion based mindfulness therapy and stress based mindfulness therapy and environmental art therapy. I provide clinical supervision and training therapy for trainee art psychotherapists. My practice is in line with HCPC Standards and the BAAT Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Practice. I hold a Masters in Art Psychotherapy Research Practice from Leeds Metropolitan University, a Diploma in Art Psychotherapy from The Northern Programme of Art Psychotherapy, Sheffield, a Certificate in Environmental Arts Therapy, London Art Therapy Centre and a Postgraduate Certificate in Art & Education from the University of Central England in Birmingham.
