Sharon Martin
Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in Cambridge

I am a qualified Psychologist and Psychotherapist, currently working both in Private practice as a Consultant Psychotherapist, as well as a University Clinical Supervisor and specialist Lecturer, ensuring that students are practising within the BABCP competencies and ethical guidelines. I have specialist skills and training in complex trauma, treatment resistant and severe depression, anger issues and the full range of anxiety disorders, including complex OCD, social phobias, health anxiety, low self-esteem and Panic disorder. I have gained extensive experience in working with college and University/PHD students and adolescents, who have alongside a range of other clients, benefited greatly from a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). EMDR techniques can be combined with CBT to optimise outcomes and facilitate recovery from a wide range of conditions, improving rapidness of effectiveness and depth of change than with CBT alone.
Having qualified in 2001 from Cambridge University in Psychotherapy, I trained in Psychodynamic, CBT, Solution Focussed and Person-centred therapeutic approaches. I went on to obtain a professional degree in Social Work and during this time, worked privately providing psychotherapeutic interventions with a range of individuals with difficulties. I have extensive experience in working with young people (7-21years), having completed therapeutic placements in educational and semi-independent living settings, and specialist experience in working as a Supervising Social Worker with foster/adoptive parents and children, delivering attachment and behavioural training to foster / adoptive parents across the UK. I an qualified to undertake Form F Assessments and recommendations to providers for the assessment of potential foster and adoptive carers.
Following 5 years' experience working within the NHS IAPT Team, and the Cambridge Centre for CBT, I completed a wide range of Advanced training and have a particular interest and experience in Complex Trauma, Chronic conditions, including pain, and . My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative in therapeutic style and my approach to therapy is centred upon the client's goals within the Psychological evidence base - providing an individualised and targeted treatment programme.
I am flexible with evening and weekend appointments, which allow for extended appointments and facilitates recovery.
