Counsellor in Penzance

As a counsellor, I'm here to offer you a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space to explore your feelings, personal relationships, or simply to provide an opportunity to deepen your self-understanding.

I am fully insured, Registered and Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and adhere to their Code of Ethics. In addition to being a qualified Person-Centred counsellor, I hold a degree in sociology and writing and am an experienced Cooperative Development Worker.

As well as working privately, I continue to provide counselling support through GamCare (Gambling Addiction) and Counselling for Social Change (providing support for people on benefits / low-incomes). I have recently ended a period of volunteering for Addaction (Drug & Alcohol recovery).

Beyond the counselling room, I am a father, musician and writer. I have worked and volunteered for environmental and social organisations for most of my adult life and am the founder of 'Counselling for Social Change' which ensures counselling is available to those on low incomes.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

My counselling style is rooted in the Person-Centred Approach. I start with the belief that, with the right support, we all have the ability to move towards a more fulfilling and satisfying way of being and living our lives. In the Person-Centred Approach the counsellor trusts the client to find their own answers and direction.

As the counsellor, I am a fellow traveller on your journey, helping you to understand how you interact with the world, helping you develop a greater sense of self-awareness in a safe space.

The essential qualities needed to create this environment are empathy, acceptance and congruence. These core conditions, are at the heart of the Person Centred Approach.

Although my core training is in the Person-Centred Approach, I have an keen interest in other approaches, including mindfulness, ecotherapy and existentialism, which may be helpful for some people.
