I am a BACP registered psychotherapist based in London W1 and director of Harley Street Counselling. I also work in Bucks and Berks where I practice as a psychotherapist and Existential therapy group facilitator. For the last four years I worked for MIND with clients with acute mental health diagnoses and was employed there as Creative Group Therapist.
For depression, chronic anxiety and mental health problems - including trauma, PTSD, BPD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, self harm, Bipolar disorder (manic depression) and obsessions - I offer long term PSYCHOTHERAPY one to one or in a group. I don't work with these 'labels' in the room, but with you as a person. I see my role as being with you while you face the realities of your existence, helping you to understand the choices you have and to bear the pain, in order to live a more fulfilling life.
For those currently facing a CRISIS (including identity, relationship issues, infidelity, loss, sexuality, gender, power, coming out, death and betrayal) I can provide a safe and discreet space to work through such feelings as shame, confusion, dread and guilt, without judgement, enabling you to come to terms with your life, accept yourself and recognise your freedoms, thereby enabling you take greater responsibility for your future choices.
I also offer GROUP THERAPY for those wishing to enhance self awareness, live a more authentic existence, explore existential or recurrent issues, crises and ways of being.
I am an active researcher, and I regularly attend conferences, give papers and run workshops. I write and research for publication and public forums and am currently working on a book on Narcissistic relationships, and am researching ways to cut through feelings of numbness and dissociation, and explore the emptiness experienced when we feel unable to live up to the image of the person others see us as or that we have constructed, and the thrill-seeking or destructive behaviours that may result from this. I work with both clients who have developed narcissistic behaviours often as a result of wounds from early life, and with their Echoistic (Echo-like) partners, or the friends who support them or play/endure their role in these relationships. I am also researching the area of using creativity to work through trauma, and to find ways around the blocks to enhance communication and understanding in 'Relationship therapy'. My chapter on 'Using Myth in Existential Therapy' was recently published (Nov 2013) in a new Palgrave book 'Existential Relationship Therapy' with Emmy van Deurzen et al. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/dp/0230362095/ref=mtr_p_toshiba-metro_dp?tag=toshiba-metro-uk-21&tagbase=toshiba-metro&tbId=Im%3B%40BI%2BImUV(%40X0TUN4%5D
Approach to Therapy & How I Work
Finding the right therapist is often difficult. The work is based on forming a relationship where you feel safe to share your worries and problems without fear of judgement. If you are feeling depressed or anxious, find yourself filled with dread or feel hopeless and desperate, or have undergone a recent life change or loss, COUNSELLING can provide a safe confidential space to talk about your feelings and help to make sense of them. Life is full of challenges and we can often feel at sea with no sense of an anchor or a safe harbour. I can be with you to help negotiate your way through stormy seas, whether to find more direction, harness your power or to recognise, accept and support you in your vulnerability.
When appropriate I draw significantly upon my creative background in the arts, and Jungian teachings, particularly when working with clients from artistic backgrounds, the creative industries and corporate clients. I may use story, myth, music, art, symbols, play and drama in addition to more traditional 'talking therapies'. I also work with actors, academics, high achievers and directors, and currently work with a number of counsellors / therapists coming back into therapy to deal with emergent issues from their own work and lives. I offer a non-judgemental, creative and empathetic space to do so.
I suggest an initial consultation to meet, and to see if we can work together, before agreeing to a contracted period of work. The work can be short term or open ended. Individuals, couples counselling and group therapy are all available.
