Counsellor in Stamford

** All sessions are now available In-Person or remotely via Teams vide, both in Cambridge and Stamford.**

Everyone is different and ‘mental health', as we know, covers a huge spectrum of difficulties. That's why, when it comes to treatment, there is no one size fits all.
My two clinics are: Stamford, which is within easy reach of the A1 and Trumpington, Cambridge that can be easily accessed from the M11.

As your therapist, it is my job to talk with you in order to help you, and I, better understand what you are going through and identify how best to help you to manage those difficulties effectively. To do that, I will call upon my 30 years of experience gained in a variety of roles, and settings and my extensive knowledge of different therapeutic approaches in addressing mental health issues.

You may be facing a number of different challenges in your life which may need slightly different approaches.
My experience includes working alongside clients suffering with depression, anxiety disorders - including panic and agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and generalised anxiety disorder. I have also helped a number of clients whose phobias, health anxiety and low self-esteem were hampering their lifestyle.

Very often I will call upon different techniques to help you. I am a registered mental health nurse, a fully qualified and accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapist for Depression (IPT). I have a degree in Integrative Counselling. That provides me with various psychological concepts to talk over with you in order to find the one that you feel most comfortable with.

I continue to work within the NHS as a CBT therapist and supervisor and I work for the Universities of East Anglia and Hertfordshire as a clinical supervisor and visiting lecturer.

My practice includes different modalities such as CBT, IPT, EMDR and counselling.

Stamford consulting rooms are situated in the heart of Stamford, Lincolnshire, within easy reach of Peterborough, Oundle, Rutland and surrounding areas, as well as Spalding and Market Deeping. There is plenty of parking nearby.

Cambridge therapy rooms are located in Trumpington with parking facilities with ease of access to the park and ride.
Excellent location for many of the surrounding areas.

A testimonial - "I started seeing Melanie after suffering depression following years of emotional abuse during my marriage. With her help I have found my self worth, feel positive about the future and actually realise what I have going for me. I am able to deal with situations that I would have previously found difficult, and have realised that only I can make myself happy, and likewise, only others can make themselves happy. I feel mentally stronger than I have ever done before, thanks to Melanie."

"Melanie has really helped me with my anxiety.
She gave me hope when I felt hopeless about it, and has taught me ways of dealing with the problem that have really helped.
She has supported me but also motivated me to push myself.
I have learnt that I can cope with so much more than I thought I could.
I would highly recommend Melanie as a therapist."

"Working with Mel has been so beneficial for me. She helped me to deal with issues I was facing and helped me to find the tools to deal with these issues on an ongoing basis. The biggest benefit from my time with Mel was to realise that my ‘issues' were relevant and justified and that dealing with them is necessary and not selfish indulgent.
I found Mel very approachable and friendly and we built up a very good working relationship where I trusted her completely. "

Melanie provided a safe environment for me to work through the issues and, with her insights and skills, she was able to give share with me valuable tools and guidance that enabled me to reach my goals. I would highly recommend Melanie. "
