Nick Medhurst

Counsellor in Warminster

My name is Nick Medhurst and I am a qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have experience of working with clients with a wide range of issues which range from an indefinable feeling that "something is missing" in their lives, to dealing with the devastating impact of major loss, abuse or early childhood trauma.

Being listened to and valued as a person, without being judged, is an important part of the counselling process. It allows an individual the space to reconnect with themselves, and find a way to discover and accept who they truly are. Clients often struggle for years to cope with their lives or their relationships before they choose to come to counselling. My role is to assist my clients in finding solutions to the emotional pain they feel - pain which, for one reason or another, may have proved very difficult to acknowledge or share in the past.

Background & Qualifications

I am a qualified counsellor with a post graduate diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling. I am also a member of the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, and a part-time tutor with a counselling college. I regularly attend continuing professional development (CPD) training courses and events in order to advance my learning.

My early career was spent in the business world when I worked and lived in many countries and cultures overseas. Before I completed my counselling training I worked for ten years with organisations in England and Scotland providing homes for families who had previously been homeless.

My Specialisms

Some examples of the issues which have brought clients to see me include: stress and anxiety; depression; feelings of hopelessness; relationship problems; bereavement; self development issues; work and career issues; loss; sexual abuse; emotional abuse; physical abuse; spiritual development; low self esteem; drug and alcohol misuse; chronic illness; adoption issues; anger management: emotional trauma; compulsive behaviour.

Clients have described my counselling style as creating a gentle tranquil space in their lives where they feel heard and understood, and where it feels safe for them to explore and resolve their deepest fears and anxieties.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

The type of counselling therapy I offer seeks to consider the whole person - mind, body and spirit. My work is essentially person centred but recognises that the quality of the therapeutic relationship (rather than any individual theoretical orientation), is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work. In other words, depending on a client's needs, I may draw on a variety of approaches, including psychodynamic and transpersonal psychology.
