Counsellor in Nottinghamshire

Thank you for looking at my profile.

I have worked mainly with adults within the NHS for the past 13 years as a counsellor and more recently as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. I have been working in private practice since November 2016. I am experienced in working with adults as well as young people. I have also worked in voluntary services including The Samaritans, Discern, Mansfield Counselling Services, The Information Shop for Young People and Talkzone.

Background & Qualifications

I have over 16 years of experience as a counsellor and over 9 years experience as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. I qualified as a counsellor in 2001, I achieved BACP accreditation in 2004. I completed a Masters Degree in Counselling Studies at The University of Nottingham in 2007. I went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive behavioural Psychotherapy in 2010 and I achieved full accreditation with the BABCP in 2011. I am currently training in Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR).

My Specialisms

I provide one to one counselling or cognitive behavioural psychotherapy for people who may be struggling with depression, relationship issues, life changes, stress, behavioural challenges, trauma, lack of confidence and low self esteem, anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder or phobia‘s. I also provide EMDR for trauma.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

People enter therapy to understand and move through emotional obstacles, increase emotional well-being, understand and improve behaviour, challenge negative thinking styles and heal suffering.

I offer weekly or fortnightly sessions which are 60 minutes in duration. Our first session is likely to be an assessment session. In this session we will work together to begin to understand your current problems, including relevant history, factors that contribute to your problem, your feelings and emotions and how this impacts on you and your behaviour in your every day life.

You can expect me to write notes on what you are saying and to collaborate with you, so that we can develop a mutual understanding of your problem and how we can help you to manage it. I work hard to build a trusting and equal therapeutic relationship with every person that I work with. At the end of each session, we will negotiate a task for you to complete between each session. This is aimed for you to put any learning you have achieved about your difficulties into practice and it speeds up your recovery from your problem.

I am friendly and approachable and I strive to create an informal environment whilst we are working together. My aim as a therapist is to give you the skills to become your own counsellor, so that you will be able to manage your problems now and in the future. I am happy to show you my certificates of qualification and training, professional indemnity insurance and any other verification of my ability that you require.

I offer sessions in a secure, warm and welcoming environment. I am able to offer sessions during the day on Wednesdays and Saturdays, evening appointments on Monday and Wednesday.
