Since completing my studies to become a counsellor in 2000, I have gained experience in many areas of counselling. My first posts were at a Youth Centre and a N.C.H. Family Centre in Tiverton where I gained experience in working with young adults and children. I have since continued to extended my qualifications by completing my Couples Counselling and Family Therapy courses and often attend training and development day courses throughout the year.
I have been fortunate to have spent 13 years at a highly reputable counselling service in Exeter where 90% of our clients were G.P. referrals, giving me a wealth of experience in working with people with a variety of difficulties.
I abide to the B.A.C.P. Code of Ethics and Practice, I am therefore bound by its ethical framework. I'm committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment and regularly have supervision
I have worked with clients suffering from a variety of issues such as depression, relationship problems, suicidal feelings, mental health issues, alcohol and substance misuse, self harm, eating disorders, sexual issues and sexual identity issues, trauma, physical and sexual abuse both adult and childhood, bereavement, loss, change, stress, low self esteem or self worth, anxiety and OCD to name a few.
My main theory is Person Centred, although having attended training days throughout my years as a counsellor I have picked up many tools to complement my core Person centred approach.
My aim is to understand with true empathy, to listen to you without judgement, and use my skills to help you find a way forward with whatever problem or situation is causing you concern or anguish. I will not give advice, but will help you make your own choices. you will be able to talk freely, without fear of rejection, criticism or blame.
I believe in working with diversity and each unique person with me is at the core of the work we do together.
