My Philosophy

With the ever-increasing pressures in daily life, it is no surprise that we feel under pressure. When faced with difficult situations or transitions in our work or private life, we often feel as though we should be able to handle these situations, seeing the need for support as a sign of weakness. This can ultimately lead to a sense of overwhelm, stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, anger, jealousy and any other naturally occurring negative emotions. Over time, this can cause a decrease in self-esteem, confidence, and motivation that then feeds into negative patterns of thinking, feelings and behaviours. Therapy provides professional support and an opportunity to explore these difficulties in a safe and therapeutic space. It provides a space to process and deal with the areas of life that bring painful and negative thoughts and feelings, allowing to work towards acceptance, increased hope and a more positive mind-set.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

My Approach

I base my therapy on the view that the therapeutic relationship is of most importance. Providing a non-judgemental, confidential and safe place where you are able to confide and share openly with support.

The process of therapy will begin with initially discussing the current difficulties and reasons for seeking additional support. We will further explore past experiences in order to gain a better understanding of you as a whole. We will work together to discuss goals for therapy, ensuring that the therapeutic process is a collaborative one.

I tailor my therapeutic approach in order to suit the individual and their needs, as different approaches will work for different people. I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as well as third wave approaches, including mindfulness, and compassion-focused approaches. I have frequently used a more integrative approach when needed to suit the needs of the individual. I also offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment that has shown to help overcome past trauma, alongside many other difficulties (e.g. anxiety and phobias).

My Motivation

I am driven by the recognition that we sustain psychological injuries even more often than we do physical ones, injuries like failure or rejection or loneliness. They can also get worse if we ignore them, and impact our lives in dramatic ways. And yet, even though there are scientifically proven techniques we could use to treat these kinds of psychological injuries, we often belittle them. I strive for the recognition that mental health is as important and life changing as physical health. I maintain my enthusiasm for my profession when I see this recognition in my clients, and when we both experience relief at finally feeling heard and understood. Above all, I feel grateful for the opportunity to contribute to people's wellbeing.

A Little About Me

I am passionate in helping others to overcome obstacles, allowing for a richer and more fulfilling life. I feel privileged to be able to meet and work collaboratively with the people that seek support and humbled to be able to join them on their journey of self-discovery.
