Craniosacral Therapist in Port Talbot

After receiving a CST treatment for stress related jaw and shoulder pain, I was so impressed with the changes I experienced (not only pain reduction but feelng different about myself e.g. happy!!) that I decided to train as a CST therapist. Early retirement gave me the opportunity to follow up my interest in CST and to become a therapist myself.
Having worked therapeutically for many years using the skills and approaches of the "talking therapies", I feel that CST is the " missing" link that brings together mind and body, both for myself and for the people I work with.
As well as my CST, I volunteer for a bereavement charity and try to grow vegetables on my allotment (the cauliflowers were good this year!).
I support charities campaigning for the environment, animal welfare, Water Aid and organic gardening.
I enjoy walking (mostly with our dog), reading - especially historical detective stories/Terry Pratchett, supporting my local library, film, travel in Wales.
I also studied Native American spirituality for 10 years and continue to try to live in balance and harmony with "all the worlds of Grandmother Earth".

Background & Qualifications

I was born and brought up in a large city in the South of England; I moved to Wales to go to college and never left! After College, I had jobs in youth work and then later in community work and social care. Until I trained as a Craniosacral Therapist following early retirement, most of my working life has been in the field of youth/community work and social care.
I am a graduate of University College of Wales, Aberystwyth ( in English and Librarianship) and also have qualifications in Social Care(CCETSW) , Student Mentoring (CCETSW) & Family Therapy (University of Glamorgan)
My CST Training was with Resonance Trainings based in Stroud and I am registered with the CSA UK.
I have Open College qualifications in bereavement care, group work and end of life support
As a registered CST, I attend regular training courses (e.g babies' experience of birth with Matthew Appleton) and supervision

My Specialisms

People have come to me for a CST treatment for many reasons - change and challenge are happening in their lives; they are experiencing pain/discomfort but there is "nothing wrong" or "nothing works";they are having significant health problems or simply a sense of feeling "out of sorts".
My particular experience, in addition,is in working with health concerns arising from bereavement, stress , and after surgery/medical treatment

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

My training was in the biodynamic approach and this fits with my own ideas about change and healing. These ideas have developed over my working life and are especially influenced by the theory and practice of family therapy: #the problem is the problem, NOT the person;# focussing on strengths and building from them; #therapist and client are partners;# ; #diffculties can show up in one person in the family ( part of the body) AND everyone (every part of the body) is involved and can be part of the solution; #"both/and" NOT "either/or" , e.g. we can feel unwell and still find a point of balance and wellbeing.
