Approach to Therapy & How I Work

Joanna will meet with you and discuss your complaint and take your case history at your initial appointment. It is important to know more about you and your life as osteopathy considers the whole body and how you are using it in life, not just its parts. Joanna then look for health in you rather than just your pain. She will discuss different approaches with you to help you decide which you are happy with as there are a wide variety of techniques all of which are gentle and shouldn't cause more discomfort. Hands-on treatment can relieve a range of problems such as acute and chronic back pain, sciatica - trapped nerves, neck pain, shoulder complaints, joint, ligament and muscular pain, sports injuries and a number of conditions.

You may need further treatments depending on your condition and how long you have had your complaint. It could be you require a review and general treatment rather than having a specific problem to resolve.

Medical, or modern, acupuncture is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture. It involves the insertion of needles for muscular pain relief and to stimulate the nervous system to relieve pain, promote healing and relax you. Very often, tight painful bands within a muscle, called a ‘trigger points', cause pain to be experienced at a distance from the trigger point itself. This and other conditions are suitable for treatment by acupuncture. Fine, disposable single-use needles are inserted into points in the body and gently moved. Although the sensation varies from person to person, it is usually painless and relieves discomfort.

Caring Osteopathy offers osteopathy and medical acupuncture to people of all ages. Joanna is listed with major insurance companies and her premises and practice are fully insured.
