EFT Practitioner in Blyth

As a therapist, I specialise in helping people who didn't feel good enough as children, and still don't feel good enough now, to change the way they think, feel and act so they can be kinder to the person they are and become the person they want to be.

As is often the case with people in the helping professions my interest in this work grew out of my own history and needs. I often felt a subtle undertow of shame, a need to avoid disapproval and sometimes I had to pretend to feel OK.

It wasn't crippling, I got by well enough, but it wasn't much fun either.

Although I didn't fully understand what was going on, I did realise that suffering was overrated and wanted to do something about it.

Since I left school (a very long time ago) I have tried many different forms of self-help and inner work including: counselling, meditation, NLP, EFT, hypnotherapy and a host of other techniques and approaches to become more self-accepting and resourceful.

After a lot of learning I started to become the person I always wanted to be (it is, and probably always will be, a work in progress).

Along the way I reached the point where I wanted to help others achieve the same kind of results I was getting.

In 2002, after a lot of training, I started working professionally with people; providing therapy and training to help change the way they think and feel about themselves so that they can lead happier inner lives and be more accepting and resourceful.

My Specialisms

I help people who have never felt good enough to accept and value themselves for who they really are

Some people grow up in very critical or difficult families.

Because of their early experiences they can come to feel that there is something wrong with them or that they are not good enough.

Even though they are now grown up and their childhood is far away, they may still feel there is something wrong with them or they are not good enough.

They may always be looking for approval, they can be very sensitive to the criticism of others (or feel criticised on the inside), they feel bad about themselves or they might even hate themselves.

These thoughts and feelings cause them much emotional suffering and lead them to struggle in their lives, relationships and work.

If you were left feeling that you were not good enough as a child you will probably know what it's like to be sensitive to shame, disapproval and the criticism of others.

I help people let go of those old feelings and reactions so they can accept who they are now without shame and become who they want to be.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

I treat people with acceptance and understanding and meet them as a person not a problem. I work from where you are and help you get to where you want to go.

My clients tell me that they see me as straightforward, trustworthy, compassionate and resourceful. They also say that I don't seem to be uncomfortable with anything they say, or judge them in any way, and that they felt safe.

When you contact me, we will arrange a brief telephone conversation about what you want help with and what you would like to get from working with me.
If it seems like we might be a good fit as a therapeutic partnership (because the therapy I do is a mutual collaboration) I will send you a confidential client questionnaire for you to complete and return to me.

When I receive the completed form we will arrange a first appointment.

At the first session which lasts 1 hour we will talk in detail about where you are now (your current difficulties), where you want to be (your outcomes) and what's keeping you stuck where you are. The first session also gives us the opportunity to see if we would be able to work well together.

Each further session is one hour long (longer sessions are available by arrangement) where we work on what is most important to you.

I principally use EFT, NLP and Identity Healing (a therapeutic process I created to sooth our wounded inner children).
