I have been in continuous private practice since 1996, in 2003 obtaining the Diploma in Humanistic Integrative psychotherapy DIP.HIP. (UKCP reg.). at bcpc (Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling) Prior to that I saw clients at Cotswold counselling and support centre in Cirencester and was one of the founding members of the Centre, later becoming a consultant to them.
I have a certificate in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) the NICE recommended treatment for Post traumatic Stress disorder. I have undertaken further training in Energy psychology EFT (tapping) and AIT(advanced integrated therapy using chakras) these methods use the body's energy fields and speed up the processing of trauma and anxiety.
I have a diploma in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes. (CWTP) Metanoia Institute and Middlesex University.
I qualified in medicine MB.BS (London) 1970 and was a GP in Cirencester for 15 years.
I set up a counselling service at GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) and worked there for almost 10 years and am therefore very experienced in working with people from different cultures and countries
I work with people in distress rather than labels so I do not consider the term specialism appropriate. However some of the causes of distress have been:
Abuse, Anxiety including panic attacks and phobias, Bereavement, Boarding school survivors, Burn-out, "Carers" of a relative, Child sexual abuse, Chronic illness, Cancer diagnosis, Cultural difficulties Depression, Empty Nest syndrome, Family problems, Loss, Low self-esteem, Mid-life issues, PTSD, psychosomatic illness Relationship difficulties/breakdown, Spirituality, Trauma and Work related difficulties
As a Humanistic Integrative practitioner I work with the relationship between myself and each individual client, aiming to provide a safe space in which to explore in confidence deep underlying concerns. I believe many people have become disconnected from their sense of their own truth and innate worth and by sometimes focusing on the body and breath reconnection can be achieved. I also use EFT (emotional freedom technique) and AIT (Advanced integrative therapy). This makes use of the body's energy channels and speeds up the work
