How and why did you become a Cognitive Behavioural Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist?
I was a stockbroker in the City for 17 years but I had always wanted to do something in psychology. I believe that everything I have done has led me to this moment.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I love meeting people. I am humbled by what I hear and what resolve people have. Everyone without exception has a great story.
What do your clients value most about your services?
Discretion, honesty and kindness. My time - I am not ‘time precious'. I am a good, kind listener and give people the space that allows them to think and work their stuff out.
What methods do you employ when seeing a client ?
I use many techniques based around CBT and Hypnotherapy. CBT in a few words is ‘we feel the way we think'. CBT enables people to manage their emotional difficulties by understanding and changing the way they think. The feeling of Hypnosis is a bit like daydreaming, something that we all go in and out of daily. When the client is in hypnosis they are highly suggestible and positive change can take place rapidly. It's great for relaxation and confidence building. Hypnotherapy and CBT are about gifting the client the tools to take care of him or herself. So they can be safe, solve and soothe from within, but always to show them with compassion and kindness.
What can you offer clients that competitors can't?
Hypnosis and CBT are about gifting the client tools to take care of themselves. Because I worked in the City in investment banking for almost 20 years I understand stress. Being married and bringing up a family means I am not immune to life's ups and downs. I am just like everyone else with my own stuff to work out and therefore I relate easily to people.
How beneficial is therapy to counter daily stress and pressure?
There is a real need for therapists and coaches like me to help people with the stresses and strains of everyday life and who offer the opportunity for an ‘Emotional MOT'. We think nothing of going to the dentist, having our cars serviced, having our hair done, maybe having a personal trainer; yet the majority of us still think that a trip to see someone like me for support when we feel overwhelmed or down is a real weakness and view it with suspicion. Our brain is the largest and most important organ in our body and does not get serviced, why not?
