With a background in language teaching to adults, I have long been interested in helping people to overcome the obstacles that hold them back from fulfilment and joy.
My training in the helping professions started with Introduction to Counselling and continued with a Diploma in Transformational Coaching. My interests have always focused on novel and practical ways to help people, which led me to study a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Hypno-psychotherapy. I have also been training to qualify for a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and I am currently working as a counsellor trainee for the NHS in South London.
Such an eclectic training has provided me with a wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge, covering the major approaches of different schools of psychotherapy: cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic, psycho-analytical and person-centred. I personally appreciate the power of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and Brief Solution Focused therapy.
However, I also work with in-depth hypnoanalytic techniques, if the client is ready for that kind of work. As an Integrative Practitioner, I believe it is important to meet my clients where they are at, instead of trying to make clients fit my approach. I also have a deep understanding of spiritual issues and struggle and can provide clients with a holistic view of their problems.
Over the years, I have developed a deep understanding of experiences of bullying, abuse in personal relationships, lack of self-esteem and issues with body image. My experiences of living and working in different countries, has helped me understand issues around loneliness, isolation and cultural diversity. I am able to work in a holistic way, looking at the different areas of my clients' lives so that I can find a way to assist them that truly works for them.
I work with people who struggle with:
Self- confidence and problems related to lack of self-worth
Weight Management and reduction for health and wellbeing
I work helping clients specialising in three areas:
Anxiety (General Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks, Phobias, other types of Anxiety Problems)
Weight Management: I work with clients who want to reduce their excess weight for health and wellbeing purposes.
Love and relationships: I work with clients who have problems in the area of romantic relationships and who also experience challenging work situations such as bullying, harassment and victimisation.
My approach to psychological help is underpinned by the Integrative approach to coaching, counselling and psychotherapy.
I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, NLP Practitioner and Holistic Coach
I believe it is important to understand clients' goals and needs before deciding on the best approach for them. Each client is different and what works for one may not work for another. I have found, through my own life experience that, to make real and sustainable changes, it is important to gain awareness of the unconscious drives and motivations that guide our behaviour and to take full responsibility for our choices.
I help people by giving them the support and encouragement they need so they feel empowered to make the changes that they want to make.
Often, people want to make changes which only touch the surface of the problem. In such cases, they soon find that the changes they made don't last or things revert to a previous state, leaving them confused and hopeless that change is even possible. This is because very often, real transformation happens at a deeper level, the level of identity.
This means that we need to look at your beliefs, your values, thinking, behaviour and environment so that we can understand how you relate to yourself, to others and the world, and at a higher level, to all of life.
What happens when people try to change without going deeper is that sooner or later, they find themselves in the same situation, although the scenario and the actors may be different. This is what we call a recurring life pattern or life trap. If you have found yourself caught in a recurring pattern, like a hamster on a wheel, you are trying to make changes at a superficial level.
The deal with repeating patterns of behaviour is that they are highly automatic - it is the mode in which we think, feel and behave by default. To change this, you must look deeper, at the level of identity. Identity is formed at an early age, and it is made up of beliefs about ourselves, others and the world/ life. These beliefs are driven by assumptions formed at an early age when we did not have the developmental sophistication required for critical thinking and emotional maturity to discern how to respond to circumstances or other people's behaviour.
As a child, you did what worked to keep you safe, and now, as an adult, you unconsciously revert to that state when confronted with similar situations, only that, now, the circumstances and the people have changed and your response may no longer be appropriate or generative of a life-enhancing experience. For example, if you believe that you are unworthy of love, you are going to show up in ways that generate a response that confirms that belief. Beliefs are outside our conscious awareness and therefore, that is where we need to go to disentangle those old ways of being that no longer serve you.
To heal the patterns, first, you need to recognise that there is a pattern and you have to take radical self-responsibility for the change.
I can guide you through the process of transformation, step by step, and with my coaching, you will feel supported and encouraged to find the internal resources and to create the structures in your life that will enable you to break the cycle of recurring destructive patterns.
