I am on the College of Bowen Studies Register of Bowen Practititioners. www thebowentechnique.com/find-a-practitioner/
I don't specialise in any one area, I enjoy adapting my skills and knowledge to give an individualised treatment.
When a client comes to me for a treatment I aim to provide a relaxing, safe space where they will be listened to and respected. I always do a consultation with a new client. This may take a few minutes or up to half an hour, depending on the client and their needs. It enables me to give a safe and appropriate treatment ,and gives the client a chance to explain what benefits they are hoping to get from the treatment.
Everyone of us is unique, so every treatment session is unique too. One person may want to unwind with gentle background music and have their tense shoulders and lower back ironed out, while inhaling the aromas of the essential oil blend that I'm using. Someone else may want to come in in their lunch hour,, hop on the couch and have some targetted work done to relieve their sciatica, then go back to work. Someone else may want to chat while they have a reflexology treatment - one of my regulars likes to discuss the news with me. Not my idea of relaxation, but its her session and her shout.
I work with an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology and pathology as well as the philosophy that good health and wellbeing is more than absence of illness, and includes the ability to get enough rest and sleep, a sense of inner peace and a free flow of energy through the body and mind . As someone who in the past has had life saving medical and surgical treatment from the NHS I have huge respect for conventional western medicine (and surgery) in managing or curing acute and chronic illnesses and alleviating symptoms, but I believe
that more often than not, there is a place for holistic therapies to complement this treatment in the longer term. In other situations, such as chronic pain, a specific therapy can often
help, for example, with pain relief or promoting relaxation which makes it easier for the person to handle the pain., when the conventional routes such as physiotherapy and prescribed
painkillers, have done all they can.
I would love to see more recognition within the medical profession of the value of holistic therapies. Many are becoming more open to the idea, and occasionally I even have a client who says they are having a treatment because thir GP suggested it - but there is a long way to go.
