Susan is an experienced healthcare professional, and is passionate about providing the best possible care and management of patients with oedema. Any treatment plan is based on the individual clients needs and thorough assessment. . Although popular in Europe Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is rarely offered within the NHS unless the patient has access to MLD through the Hospice services. MLD is a gentle form of skin massage designed to enhance and improve lymphatic performance. The repetitive gentle movements are profoundly relaxing. can help with pain and is also powerful in helping to improve lymph flow and tissue viability. The main goal of the MLD therapist is to improve or restore lymph drainage that has become impaired, relieving fluid retention and improving comfort.

Background & Qualifications

I have been a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years, for most of the time I have worked in the NHS. I was presented with the Queens Nurse award in 2010. Despite having left the NHS in 2012, I still work closely with colleagues and services. My background is as a District Nurse and Tissue Viability Nurse. I went to Austria to undertake the Vodder Course in MLD as I found that many of my patients had problems with chronic oedema, lymphoedema and lipoedema.
