Approach to Therapy & How I Work

Choosing your Body/Sports Massage and or Reiki Therapist/Practitioner.
Below are some important questions you many want to ask when you choose your Therapist.
Is the Therapist you are looking at regulated, Registered and Insured with a professional Body?
Do they offer comfortable, clean and hygienic surroundings? Ask them if they wash their towels at 60 degrees for a 2-hour cycle? - this is the correct heat to destroy any bacteria.
Do they offer a consultation to include a brief medical questionnaire that will help them to ascertain what therapy is most beneficial to you?
Will they meet realistic expectations? Therapists are not miracle workers they can only offer complementary therapies to enhance a person's health and well-being.. They must not profess to "Cure" health issues.
Do they offer confidentiality and data protection?
Do they work to a code of ethics and best practise? ask for their code of ethics, do they practise equality, fairness and transparency.
Is there adequate car parking and is access to the Therapy room easy?
It is important to choose a "Qualified" Sports Therapist or Qualified Massage Therapist, that has undertaken all the necessary training and practise, they should provide you with evidence of Qualifications and Certification.
You can check whether a Sports Therapist or Massage Therapist is registered with a Professional Body such as Federation of Holistic Therapy (FHT), then you can be confident that they are properly trained, qualified, registered, regulated and insured. Again, they should be able to provide evidence of insurance.
The first consultation is to establish the way forward and to bring to light any facts that are relevant to you. Your therapist will first discuss your symptoms, medical history and expectations and then determine the best techniques to use. Completion of a consultation form may be required. A 5-10-minute chat is a good start as it will allow both parties to get to know each other and establish a therapy that is best suited to your needs and well-being.
During this consultation period, your questions should be answered about insurance, qualifications and experience. You should feel confident that you are seeing the right person, your personal details are held in confidentially and your privacy is respected. A clear method of treatment should be discussed before any treatment is performed.
Your chosen Massage therapist will manipulate muscles and other soft tissues in the body to relieve pain, reduce stress and improve general well-being. They may use their hands, fingers, forearms or elbows to knead the body, and they may apply lotions and oils. Many types of therapies are available, such as myo-fascial release massage, deep-tissue massage and sports massage Your Therapist may work in brightly lit settings for Sports massage or in subdued surroundings, accompanied by aromatic candles and music, to relieve stress.
It is important to anyone these days that if you are having treatment for rehabilitation after injury or you suffer from and ongoing condition such as arthritis or any muscular skeletal problem or just needing a massage, be it Aromatherapy, Hot stones or Deep Tissue Body/Sports massage, that you get the right therapist for the job. Your therapist will get to know you, they will know what contraindications to look for during your treatment, they can advise you of these things. That's why a one -to- one is so important. It is this sort of things that they are taught during their training, they should also have the backing of a recognised organization, so if you have any doubts you can contact the organization about it. There are, some great therapists out there, with some good qualifications and it is so important to know your therapist and trust them so DO NOT risk going to anyone does not meet any of the above credentials
