Massage Therapist in Huddersfield

I have worked as a qualified therapist since 1992; human bodywork is my vocation. My main area of work nowadays is in the quiet, nurturing and supportive realm, helping you to explore and connect with your emotional and physical self. I hope you may gain some insights into yourself and way of being. Massage improves almost every outcome measured for emotional wellbeing, including on levels of anxiety, depression, vitality, general health, positive wellbeing and perceived stress. I strive to provide a safe quiet space for you which is peaceful, nourishing, supportive and non-judgemental, where you can feel valued, listened to and simply stop; going home feeling refreshed, released, deeply relaxed and more in touch with your whole self.

Background & Qualifications

I qualified as a massage therapist in 1992, and am a member of the Northern Massage Association and Massage Training Institute. In 2005 I graduated as a teacher of the Alexander Technique, following a three year training process studying the functioning, use and connectedness of the human body and mind; and I am a qualified somatic movement coach, in the tradition of Thomas Hanna. Since 2016 I have been training in Hakomi, a wonderful, gentle method of body psychotherapy, which can also be described as 'assisted self discovery'. Over the years I have worked, both paid and voluntarily, with people living with AIDS/HIV, at a drug and alcohol support clinic, at Kirkwood Hospice and for Huddersfield Samaritans.

My Specialisms

Working at the nurturing, restorative, psychosomatic end of the spectrum. Please note I no longer offer deep tissue or remedial massage.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

Alongside more typical massage strokes I am likely to include some of the inviting, non-doing (rather than manipulating) hands-on work of the Alexander Technique, observing and sensing patterns of tension and holding in the body and encouraging release and expansion of contracted muscles, together with a calming of your whole system. Gentle stretches, rhythmic movement and opening of joints, periods of guided awareness and exploration of breathing patterns and occasions of deep, focused stillness are other possibilities.
