Approach to Therapy & How I Work

Janis uses a range of different theoretical models, tools and techniques in his practice. Following an assessment a range of options is presented to the client as to the most suitable approach to take. Janis is highly flexible in his approach and does not believe that a client should be fitted in a narrow theoretical model, but that therapy should be tailored to suite client's needs. The length of therapy will be agreed at the beginning, and will depend on goals of therapy. Where work is likely to take longer than twelve weeks it is usually agreed to review progress at regular intervals to make sure client benefits rfrom the sessions as much as possible.
Using a CBT, EMDR and mindfulness approaches work can be expected to be relatively short to medium term (up to 24 sessions or 6 months). Schema and compassion focussed work tends to take longer - usually a minimum of 6 months of weekly sessions.
Frequency of sessions can be negotiated at the beginning of therapy.
