Mindfulness Practitioner in Tunbridge Wells

Do you feel worried, anxious, depressed, stressed? Do you have difficulties in your relationship with friends, partner, colleagues and family?

I am a chartered and accredited Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years' experience working in the NHS, private and third sector.

I offer treatments for couples and adults (over the age of 18 years) who experience a range of emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety, and trauma. I can help you to explore problems in relation to past and present painful and traumatic experiences, and their impact on current difficulties. Problems I treat include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic attacks/disorder, social anxiety, heath anxiety, body dysmorphia, agoraphobia, low self-esteem and confidence. I also provide evidence based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, childhood and adulthood trauma.

If you are a parent, in particular first time mothers and fathers, adjusting to parenthood can be challenging. I can explore with you the stress and pressures of being a parent, how to find a balance between the many pressures you might experience at work, home, and family life. Moreover, I offer therapy to parents to discuss discrepancies in their parenting styles and support parents who might experience anxiety and low mood.

It is common for life to feel unhealthily busy and for us to feel under great pressure. In therapy I can support you to find a healthier work-like balance, particularly when experiencing challenges in your personal and professional life.

In the sessions, we will work towards developing an understanding about yourself, make sense of difficulties (what is keeping you stuck with them), and give you tools and strategies to work towards feeling better, make healthier choices and achieving your personal goals. To do this, we will use the most appropriate and effective therapeutic approach based on the latest research, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Emotion focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. All these methods aim to help you to develop an insight about yourself and your difficulties, process them, and help you to make long term changes.

Being a qualified Clinical Psychologist means that I undertook 3 years of studying, at doctoral level, and practising applying psychological models in different areas including eating disorder wards, children and older adults' settings. Therefore, I have extensive experience of working in various areas with individuals, families and young people who experience a range of difficulties. Furthermore, since qualifying, I worked as a Specialist Clinical Psychologist with young people and their families, and worked for several years with adults, including new parents, experiencing low mood and anxiety.

My Specialisms

I specialise in treating depression and anxiety disorders: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD; excessive worry), panic attacks/disorder, social anxiety, heath anxiety, body dysmorphia, agoraphobia, and PTSD. Moreover, I provide therapy to address painful losses and experiences that happened in childhood or adulthood and continue to affect your present choices and wellbeing. Finally, I have a special interest in supporting parents with adjusting to the challenges of being a parent, and manage the various life pressures, including finding a balance between work, personal and family life.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

I work by adapting therapy based on your needs, goals and personality. As a Clinical Psychologist, my approaches are based on research evidence and provide treatments recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which defines the most appropriate and effective psychological treatments. Therapy models I work with include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Schema Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Systemic Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

The first session will be an initial consultation. It focuses on exploring your difficulties, what led you to search for therapy, and how it can help. It also allows us to determine if there is a positive connection, what model of therapy suits you and how long therapy might be.

The length of therapy varies generally from 6 to 20 sessions. This will be defined by combining personal preference, goals, difficulties, commitment and engagement with evidence based treatments defined by NICE guidelines.

Individual sessions last 50 minutes, and parents' consultations last 75 minutes. I offer face to face therapy as well as telephone and ZOOM sessions.
