My road to becoming a hypnotherapist stretches back to the 1980's when I first discovered self-hypnosis. It was through practicing self-hypnosis and my work as a management trainer and change management consultant that led me to become an NLP Practitioner in 1998. In 2000 I trained as a life coach and set up my own consulting, facilitation and training business in 2001 which is still going strong.
For me, given my lifelong interest in how to harness the power of the unconscious mind, it was a natural step to decide to train as a Hypnotherapist in 2008. I started my hypnotherapy practice in 2009 while continuing to work as a management consultant, facilitator and business coach.
My qualifications Include:
- Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, GHR Registered;
- Qualified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development
- Trained and experienced executive coach and life coach
I have helped people with a wide range of conditions such as anxiety and depression, low confidence, smoking, alcohol, drug and other addictions, fears and phobias, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), obesity, pain management and insomnia. While I do not have what I would class as 'specialisms' there are a number of areas which I have a special affinity for and have had great success with. These are:
- helping people with anxiety and depression
- helping children with problems such as low self-confidence and self-esteem, bullying, exam stress and poor concentration
- improving sports, academic and job performance including working with horse riders of all ages and ability levels to increase confidence and success on horseback.
Hypnotherapy is all about changing how someone thinks, acts and feels in ways that are useful and appropriate for them, and so to be free of whatever may be stopping them from having the happy and fulfilling life they are looking for.
I am focused on results but am no quick fix, one size fits all peddler of empty promises or wacky unproven ideas. I tailor everything I do to best meet each of my clients' needs, their unique situation, values and personality. I like to think I have an approach that is highly professional, pragmatic and makes a difference (well, at least my clients tell me so!).
In addition to using the power of hypnosis and the unconscious mind, I have a strong toolkit of other skills, tools and experience that I can draw on. Being professional to me is more about the small p rather than big P i.e. being highly skilled and effective while continuously seeking to improve rather than sitting on one's laurels.
I pride myself on getting results that matter and for that reason my sessions last 1.5 hours rather than the standard 1 hour model of most hypnotherapists.
I also like to help people to learn how to continue helping themselves long after our work together is done - for example by teaching my clients self-hypnosis.
