I am a fully qualified and registered osteopath holding a BSc (Hons) Ost degree from the European School of Osteopathy. I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council and am a member of both the Institute of Osteopathy (formerly known as the British Osteopathic Association) and the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy.
Having benefitted from cranial osteopathy in his youth and received basic cranial training at undergraduate level, I have gone on to complete several post graduate courses to develop my skills in this area. With these skills at my disposal, I will be able to discuss the best treatment approach for you, utilising either traditional or cranial techniques independently, or integrating the two approaches according to your individual needs.
I use a broad range of osteopathic techniques, tailoring each treatment to your individual needs. These include muscle stretching and massage, joint mobilisation and manipulation, as well as gentle cranial and functional techniques (often referred to as cranial osteopathy).
At your first appointment, I will spend the first few minutes asking you questions about your presenting complaint and how it is affecting you. I will also ask you about any accidents/injuries you may have had as well as a few questions about your medical history including any medications you are taking. If possible please bring a list of any prescribed medication with you. I will then perform an examination including an assessment of your posture, spinal and limb movements as well as any special testing that may be needed to reach a diagnosis, for example taking your blood pressure or checking your reflexes. For this you may be asked to undress to your underwear. If you prefer thin, loose fitting clothing is fine. Following examination, I will explain my findings and explain to you the diagnosis and proposed treatment. If you are happy with what has been explained to you, I will then proceed with treatment and give you any advice I feel will help bring about the best improvement of your symptoms.
Any follow up appointments that may be required will consist of a brief review of your progress followed by treatment.
