Bunty Dann

Psychotherapist in East Grinstead

My approach is practical, collaborative, measurable and cost effective (as few sessions as possible). Appointments can be made in the day or evening at a time that is convenient to you. I always measure progress at every session and tailor the therapy to the unique needs and characteristics of each individual. Therapy sessions last for 60-90 minutes and the aim is to ensure you feel better before you leave. In 2008 I came across the Humans Givens approach in my search to find the most effective ways in which to support and work with people who are in difficulties.

As a Human Givens Psychotherapist I work in a very practical and solution focused way. The Human Givens therapy uses a combination of proven therapeutic techniques with the most up-to-date psychological knowledge to relieve emotional distress and help you move on as quickly as possible. More often than not, right from the first session we will also begin using relaxation methods, together with wide range of other techniques. These exercises work to activate your own natural resources and are key to providing you with immediate relief from psychological stress

Most people can be helped in 4 to 6 sessions although some people need only one or two and others with more complex difficulties may require more. The aim is to help you in as few session as possible.

If you would like to have someone accompany you to the session, there are waiting areas in each of the locations where the therapy is given, please let me know. I can also travel and make home visits if needed.

Background & Qualifications

I work in private practice providing individuals with therapy, I also work with private medical companies and a charity working predominantly with cases of post-traumatic stress injuries.

My Specialisms

Specialist areas: post traumatic stress disorder; depression; anxiety'; sleep problems; chronic Pain.

For many years I have predominantly worked with men. The Human Givens therapy uses a particularly affective technique to help people who are affected with post traumatic stress disorder. This works quickly to get people living their lives without the disabling effects of post-traumatic stress, so they can get back to life using their full potential.

Running a private practice in Sussex and also working with medical companies who refer cases of front line staff that have been through traumatic events and the charity PTSD Resolution which works with service personnel, reservists and their families. The charity only uses Human Givens therapists to help to heal the post-traumatic stress injuries that people are suffering as this is seen as the most effective method of recovery.

For the last two years I have been running a rolling programme of Improve your Sleep workshops for patients, carers and staff at St Peters & St James hospice in Sussex.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

My aim is to relieve emotional distress and to help you move on as swiftly as possible. I am trained in a highly effective technique to deal quickly with past trauma - in many cases this only takes one or two sessions.

Human Givens therapy is always positive. It aims to help you identify any unmet emotional needs and to rediscover and develop your own resources in order to get those needs met. I will teach you how to relax so that you can think more clearly, find solutions, and develop skills and strategies, now, for difficulties which may be recent or have their roots in your past. Human Givens therapy is designed to help you change unhelpful patterns of behaviour with the minimum of fuss.

Human Givens are what we are born with, the templates for our species, Nature's endowment to each of us. These givens come in two kinds:

The physical and emotional needs that evolution has programmed into us, which seeks fulfilment through our interaction with the environment
The resources (or tools) nature has provided us with to help us get those needs met

Working with your natural resources we get your emotional needs back into balance so that you can use your full potential to lead the life you want.
