, Psychotherapist in Surbiton
I am an accredited (BACP & BABCP) and experienced therapist offering open-ended integrative counselling / psychotherapy to adults from all walks of life. At times there may be things going on in your life that you cannot understand or have little control over, which can lead to you feeling unhappy. We will look at the situation you are currently facing and work together to explore the areas that trouble you. Through our exploration of past and present together, you can gain a deeper understanding about yourself and your life with the hope that you will be able to find creative ways of leading a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
I believe that counselling is an invaluable, healing and empowering experience which can allow a person to gain better awareness of self and others and understand past patterns and behaviours. Choosing a therapist may seem like a daunting process but I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is instrumental if therapy is to be effective.
With this in mind, I would invite you to contact me for a consultation where you and I will discuss your current situation, what you are looking for from therapy and whether I can help. This is an opportunity for you to find out whether I am the right therapist for you, and us getting a feel for whether we might be able to work together. My fee is £55.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work
I am an experienced BACP and BABCP psychotherapist, offering open-ended integrative counselling and psychotherapy to individuals in south west London.
My way of working is based on relational, integrative psychotherapy. This means that I place emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and that I aim to establish a safe and supportive alliance with my clients. Our relationship and the space we co create then allows us to explore your how past experiences and relationships are influencing your way of being in life as well as your choices, values, beliefs, relationships with others in the present. In my work, I am primarily informed by psychoanalytic, humanistic, and attachment-based thought and theory.
My clinical experience comprises a background of over 10 years experience in the field of applied psychology. I have worked in a clinical capacity as both a psychological therapist and a supervisor across a range of public and private settings. I now split my time between a busy NHS IAPT service where I work as a Senior Psychological Therapist and my private practice.

In addition to my formal clinical training, I undertake ongoing training in the form of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) - I am particularly interested in childhood traumatic experiences. My clinical view is that most, if not all, of the psychic troubles we experience are rooted in early life experiences and traumatic events. In our work together, we can appropriately and sensitively revisit and process earlier traumas which can then lead to more creative ways of living your life and to the resolution of any unhelpful or dysfunctional patterns.
I am also very interested in the field of sexuality, where I am conducting my doctoral thesis. I am, therefore, open to working with clients from all sexual orientations and lifestyle choices.

Additional Rate Information
I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy, which means you can come to therapy for as long as you find it helpful. Sometimes short-term therapy is appropriate for those who wish to learn ways of managing a particular symptom, and more often than not, CBT tends to be an effective way of symptom reduction. Open-ended integrative psychotherapy is particularly helpful for those who are curious about their inner worlds, their unconscious processes, and getting to know hidden aspects of themselves. You don't have to know in advance whether short-term or open-ended therapy will be helpful. Part of our consultation will be about exploring the reasons that led you to seek therapy and to establish a way forward.
