Lisa Stevenson Relationship Therapy

Lisa Stevenson
Relationship Therapist in Taunton

I've specialised in working with couples and individuals with all types of relationship for over 15 years. I also work with relational sex and intimacy difficulties. I believe that the quality of our lives ultimately depends on the quality of our relationships and it's that belief that inspires the work I do. When we're feeling disconnected and alone, when we've run out of ideas and feel hopeless, our whole lives can feel overcast.

I'm a Relationship and Couples Counsellor and an accredited member of both the National Counselling Society and the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists. My work is all conducted online for greater flexibility.

What I love most about my work is helping people to define themselves honestly to each other to inspire the relationship they long to have. The balance between attachment and difference is often our biggest challenge and this is where much of my focus is. A healthy relationship can energise and nourish us so we can go out into the world and be our best selves. I want to help you find new hope for that again.

My own relationship journeys as a wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, have been a hugely valuable source of learning. I especially love the creativity and inspiration I gain from the many people I meet and work with.

My Specialisms

HELP FOR COUPLES: If you're feeling overwhelmed by relationship issues, or you feel you've lost your connection - perhaps even forgotten why you're together - I can help you unpack your difficulties without blame and shame. We'll aim to identify the choices that you may have lost sight of. I'll help you create a new vision for working through the difficult bits together. Relationships are where we're wounded and are also where we heal and grow. Working with me will enable you to recognise difference as a gift rather than a problem, and to turn it into an opportunity for growth, maturity and greater intimacy.

HELP FOR INDIVIDUALS: If you need help processing heartbreak, or you recognise repetitive patterns in your relationships, I can help you gain insight and understanding and a better sense of self. Or if you're feeling desperately unhappy but your partner is not willing to seek help with you, we can explore the ways in which you can focus on your own growth to positively affect your relationship.

DECISION MAKING: Sometimes we get completely stuck and can't decide whether to stay together and work at the relationship or whether to call it a day and separate. If this is your situation, I can help you gain clarity. I'll meet with you together first and then separately. We'll look at what has gone wrong and what each of you recognises as your contribution to the problems. With greater understanding it's easier to decide if you want to separate or if you want to engage in Couples Therapy.

Approach to Relationship Therapy & How I Work

MY APPROACH: I believe my work is to help you rediscover yourselves as the source of the relationship you want. A good honest look at ourselves allows us to understand how we keep ourselves stuck. But more importantly, it allows us to notice and value, perhaps for the first time, what we bring to our relationships and how we can positively affect them.

Whilst the past does inform the present, my focus is on your choices right now. Inspired by the belief that relationship is a creative process moment by moment, my aim is to hold a space in which each partner can become the person they want to be for the relationship they aspire to have.

Each relationship is unique and each person's experience their own, so I draw from a range of different models and ideas to suit your needs. My aim is to inspire you to develop loving and enriching ways of connecting both with yourselves and with each other.

WHAT I OFFER: I work with couples and individuals over the age of 18yrs at all stages of relationship. Relationships can be with a current partner, with a separating partner or with a family member or friend.
