My desire to become a counsellor came at a fairly young age, when I had the sense that sometimes, it feels like there is nobody to talk to, no matter how many people you have around you.
"When someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mould you, it feels damn good... It's astonishing how confusions that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear streams when one is heard." - Carl Rogers
I left Secondary school and went on to study Health & Social Care. I fast learnt that the majority of this qualification was about local government polices, and realised i had made a mistake. I felt like I was still unqualified, despite my passing the course.
Eventually I decided to apply for a job within a counselling department for a local authority, where then I was asked to consider if I would like to gain a qualification as a Counsellor. Four years later, after a lot of academic and personal work I became a qualified Therapist doing the very job I have wanted to do since I was a teenager.
