Daniel Schwager
Shiatsu Practitioner in London

Daniel Schwager is a Swiss Manual Therapist with almost 30 years of clinical experience.

He specialises in the treatment of musculo-skeletal problems, nerve impingements, acute and chronic aches and pains from injuries, accidents or static sedentary occupations, pre- and post surgery rehabilitation, poor postural and bio-mechanical habits, and other everyday stresses, including emotional health problems.

Above all, Daniel's aim is to help to make long-term, sustainable improvement by promoting greater body awareness, not to simply ‘fix' the problem, but addressing any underlying imbalances or causal factors, facilitating changes in posture and lifestyle, preventing future health problems and promoting well-being.
Daniel offers person centred physical treatments, integrating numerous Western hands-on soft tissue manipulation and dry needling, Eastern healing methods from acupuncture and shiatsu and movement therapies from Yoga and Pilates, to provide the most effective and tailored treatment.

He has been based in Mayfair / Marylebone in central London W1 since 1999.

Background & Shiatsu Qualifications

Growing up in Switzerland, I have always enjoyed a very active outdoor lifestyle, playing a wide range of summer and winter sports at a competitive level, which resulted in numerous sports injuries. It was through receiving considerable rehabilitation treatment for my own injuries that sparked my interest in western forms of physical therapy.

In my 20's, during my years travelling and living in Asia, I was introduced to Traditional Oriental Medicine and its holistic approaches to understanding health. This inspired me to train in Eastern methods of bodywork and healing arts, including Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Reiki, Yoga and Meditation.

I am a registered practitioner of the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), which is the register of the United Kingdom Government's regulatory body for Complementary Health and is recognised by the National Health Service.
.
I am also a member of the Register of the Shiatsu Society UK (M.R.S.S) and the Acupuncture-Acutherapy Council (MAcuC).

In order to be a registered member of those regulatory and professional bodies, I have to meet the minimum standards of qualification and have signed up to a rigorous Code of Conduct.

Approach to Shiatsu & How I Work

The aim of the treatment is to assess each individual's symptoms and specific needs and treat them accordingly, in the most effective way.

During his clinical practice in the last 30 years, Daniel has treated many thousands of clients and their symptoms. He has developed his own and unique style of bodywork, an integrative manual hands-on approach to physical treatments.

A session usually lasts an hour, which includes a short discussion, assessment and treatment. Subsequent appointments may be shorter or longer, depending on the condition and the treatment plan.

Depending on your condition, it's chronicity and underlying imbalance as well as the demands you make on your body and the changes you want to make in your body; the work can last from several treatments to several months. Treatment can also be used as regular maintenance work over years.

Daniel often works with other therapists in rehabilitation as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team of Doctors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Nutritionists and Psychologist.
