Speech Therapist in Gamlingay

I am a Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist and registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, registered member of the Health Professionals Council and Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. Since qualifying as a Speech & Language Therapist in 2007 I have worked in mainstream schools, special schools and community clinics as well as developing a pre-referral Partnership Early Years Service for the NHS. I am a Speech and Language Therapist with a specialism in Autistic Spectrum Disorders. In 2009 I launched Coordinated Therapy Services and developed an independent service provision for children and young people with speech and language difficulties in mainstream and special schools and managed a team of therapists who support implementation of this across Essex, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
I now work independently all over the UK in my capacity as an Expert Witness. I also have a small local therapy caseload and run monthly Autism Diganostic Clinics. I provide clinical supervision to other speech and language therapists.

Background & Qualifications

Bsc Clinical Language Sciences (Hons)

I have experience in providing assessment and advice as an Expert Witness and have postgraduate training from Bond Solon. I have a range of postgraduate qualifications in Autism including ADOS and ADI-R training as well as sensory-behavioural feeding difficulties, including the SOS Approach to feeding.

I have written online theory content and delivered training for a modular training course for a Higher Education College.
I was on the Board of Directors for the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice from 2015-2017.

My Specialisms

Until March 2018 i employed and supervised a Multi-Disciplinary Team of Health Professionals. I specialise in working strategically with Commissioners and schools to develop and implement evidence based and effective models of service delivery within Educational environments. Coordinated Therapy Services is also commissioned directly by NHS Services to clear waiting lists as required.

My clinical specialism is Autism and I work with children and young people with a range of complex communication difficulties which may or may not include a learning disability.

I work mostly as an Expert Witness all over the UK. This involves meeting a young person at their home or educational setting, completing a detailed assessment and providing a report suitable for submission to an Educational Tribunal. I aim to ensure my written evidence is detailed enough to stand alone however I also attend tribunals when requested to give oral evidence. These are typically held at the Royal Courts of Justice in London but may be elsewhere in the country.

Approach to Therapy & How I Work

I am a motivated, positive and fun experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist offering functional and engaging therapy services to pre-school and school aged children and young adults with Autism, Social Communication Difficulties and Complex Needs in family homes, nurseries and schools. Although I am able to offer sessions from a clinic base, in the majority of cases I visit families at a location and time to suit them.

I have completed a wide range of formal and informal post-graduate training to ensure I am constantly offering the most up to date and effective therapy for my clients including, but not limited to, PECS, TEACCH, Attention Autism, Colourful Semantics and SCERTS. I am trained in the SOS feeding programme which supports development of skills for eating in children who may be 'fussy eaters'.

I enjoy working collaboratively alongside ABA consultants and tutors, Teaching Staff, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Legal Teams.

I offer specialist diagnostic assessments including those for Autism (ADOS & ADI-R), EHCPs and assessments for and representation at Educational Tribunals as an Expert Witness. I have extensive experience working with schools to set up and embed therapy services and/or provide bespoke training for staff and parents.

My philosophy is to provide evidence based and effective assessment and intervention for all of my clients supported by appropriate target setting and consideration of measurable outcomes. It is my belief that communication support should be integrated throughout all environments so that an individual can be able to spontaneously communicate and be well regulated and happy throughout their day.
