An initial session will begin with a consultation, taking note of the client's physical condition, medical history and any related lifestyle factors. Using this information a programme of therapy would then be agreed. Future sessions would involve teaching and practicing a range of yoga postures, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and visualisation activities. An initial session is likely to be an hour long and further sessions 30 to 60 minutes long.
Yoga Therapy is not currently regulated within the UK. This means there are no laws which stipulate what, if any, qualifications and experience are required in order to practice. There are various professional associations which are self-regulated and they do require members to provide proof of qualifications and training, as well as adhering to a Code of Ethics and Conduct.
