About me

I'm Robert, a counsellor offering a warm, practical space to talk through what's weighing on you. I see adults in person in Sheffield and online, particularly around stress, burnout, perfectionism and low confidence. My aim is for you to feel heard and respected, and able to explore things at your own pace, without judgement. I offer longer-term therapy for people whose struggles have roots in childhood, such as growing up without feeling safe, seen or supported, or with inconsistent care or loss. These experiences can show up later as harsh self-criticism, people-pleasing, perfectionism, difficulty trusting or feeling close to others, or feeling either overwhelmed or numb. You don't need to have a clear story to begin. We'll go at a pace that feels safe, building steadiness first, then making sense of the patterns together, with the relationship we build as a central part of the work.

Does this sound familiar?

From the outside, life may look fine. You're getting on with work, family and responsibilities. But inside you may feel numb, on edge or quietly dissatisfied, and you're not sure why. You might find it hard to trust people or feel close to them. You notice yourself falling into the same patterns in relationships, and you know you want to change them, but it keeps happening. Perhaps anxiety or low self-worth follows you around.

These patterns can repeat themselves in friendships, partnerships and at work, and can slowly narrow what feels possible for you.

Therapy offers a steady, confidential space to understand where these patterns began and to build safer, more secure ways of relating to others and to yourself. The aim is to feel more grounded, more able to trust, and less ruled by old habits.

Experience

Before training as a counsellor, I spent over fifteen years working in performing arts and education. I've experienced working with young adults in pastoral support roles and currently see students through the University of Sheffield Counselling Service as I continue my studies as I train to become a psychotherapist, so I'm used to working with people of different ages, backgrounds and pressures.
