Background & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Qualifications

I initially trained in Counselling psychology BSc (Hons) Counselling Psychology. When I move from South Africa to the UK over 10 years ago I started to specialise in CBT therapy and trained as both a PWP and High Intensity therapist. I am an accredited CBT therapist with the BABCP. I am also a qualified High Intensity Supervisor and have a number of trainee and experienced therapists under my wing. Three years ago I trained in EMDR therapy and have been using it regularly ever since.

My Specialisms

I initially trained in counselling but now specialise in CBT and EMDR therapy. I am particularly passionate about working with trauma (and have an excellent recovery rate). I also supervise and train other therapists on trauma therapy best practices. I have years of experience treating anxiety, worries, GAD, Depression, Phobias, OCD, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety, stress to name a few.

Approach to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & How I Work

I love to tell stories and share analogies as this is what people remember. I don't tend to use worksheets and workbooks but rather have the clients bring in examples of the problem each session and then work out a solution together. I like to make sure we understand the problem in a simple way and then move towards a simple solution that works for you as an individual. I believe that most improvements come about through habit change - which takes time and energy but does work.

"Andrew made me feel welcome and safe enough to open up and talk about parts of my life I'd kept locked away in boxes for years.
From start to finish my therapy with Andrew was more than beneficial, it was life changing!
He has this unique ability which opens your mind in a way that you won't believe, I found this approach of therapy very empowering.
Andrew leaves you feeling calm and at peace - something I honestly never thought I'd feel again!
Andrew listens attentively but more importantly he helps you heal traumas you thought weren't possible to ever think about again.
Thank you Andrew."

"I have been so impressed by Andrew and the results of my therapy that I have been unable to leave a review until today because I was worried I wouldn't do him justice.
He has been so kind and positive and helpful for the whole of my treatment. I am very lucky to have found him. I was looking for treatment for complex PTSD from my abusive childhood, bereavement, rape, domestic violence in the family and my own domestic violence relationships, my homelessness, alcoholism, and my rock bottom.
He has a method of EMDR witch means you can go through all the traumas and re frame them in your brain. I feel so amazing now. I felt lighter and lighter and my shoulders raised up I am at a point where I am confident in my ability to look after myself and I can deal with anything in a positive way and not be bothered by anything.
I am a totally new person there's nothing of my old brain its not like a new start because that implies its the same person doing it. It's also not becoming your old self like before the traumas it's like being a new baby. Everything is fresh and inviting I am so happy because now I have a life I can live at 37 I can do anything I want and I'm not scared anymore. I am free. I am so in awe of what's happening every day I feel so good and I know it's going to last forever. I can't thank him enough he is truly wonderful. "
