About me

Hi, I’m Jessica Brotherson,

a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and the founder of NeurodiverCBT. I provide online CBT for adults aged 18 and over, with a particular focus on PTSD and trauma-related difficulties, panic and depression.

My approach to therapy is warm, curious and collaborative. I believe effective CBT is about much more than simply applying techniques or completing worksheets. An important part of therapy is developing a shared understanding of you as an individual — what you have experienced, how you have learned to cope, what may be keeping your difficulties going, and what meaningful change would look like for you.

As a neurodivergent therapist myself, I also understand that people experience, process and make sense of the world in different ways. NeurodiverCBT grew from my belief that evidence-based therapy does not need to become a one-size-fits-all approach. I aim to provide structured, evidence-based CBT while remaining curious and responsive to the person in front of me. I possess a unique ability to build a strong rapport with a broad demographic of individuals, adjusting and tailoring my therapeutic approach to my clients needs and considering all the elements of what makes you, you. Throughout my career my approach has enabled me to maintain high attendance rates with many clients; through enabling them to feel seen and establishing a strong therapeutic alliance.

During our initial assessment, we will spend time understanding what has brought you to therapy, the difficulties you are currently experiencing and what you would like to be different. From there, we can develop a shared understanding of the problem and discuss an appropriate treatment plan. Therapy is collaborative, so you will be actively involved in deciding what we focus on and how we move forward.

Experience

I have experience working across NHS and psychological therapy services, including Vita Health Group, Hull Emotional Wellbeing Service and Our Roots. I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and a Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Specialisms

Panic, Depression, PTSD and Trauma. However, all mental health presentations are welcome.

My Approach

I particularly welcome clients who may previously have felt that therapy did not quite fit the way they think, communicate or experience the world. You do not need to have a neurodevelopmental diagnosis to work with me, and I do not assume that every difficulty a neurodivergent person experiences is caused by neurodivergence.

Above all, I want therapy to be a space where you can be understood as a whole person while receiving focused, evidence-based psychological treatment.

If you are considering CBT and would like to explore whether working together might be right for you, you are welcome to get in touch.

"Jessica has been an absolutely amazing therapist who creates such a safe and comfortable space to open up without fear of judgement. Over the 12 weeks I had with Jessica, there had been such a huge positive change in confidence, mindset, and overall happiness thanks to her support, kindness, and encouragement. She always listened with patience and helped bring out the brighter side of things during difficult times. Every session felt supportive, uplifting, and genuinely cared for. Highly recommended to anyone looking for someone understanding, compassionate, and truly dedicated to helping others. Thank you for making such a positive difference."
