Roxanna Anderson
Counsellor in Oakham

My interest in counselling began through first-hand experience of the positive change it can bring. That experience helped me recognise just how valuable and meaningful this work is, and inspired me to become part of the profession.

Today, I offer a calm, supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore whatever you may be facing. Whether you're navigating life's challenges, seeking clarity, or simply looking for a safe place to talk, counselling can be a powerful step forward — and you don't have to do it alone.

Background & Counselling Qualifications

I am a qualified counsellor, having completed counselling and psychotherapy training from Level 2 through to Level 4 with CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body), which awarded me a full Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), adhering to their ethical framework and professional standards. My ongoing development is important to me, and over the past year I've been undertaking in-person specialist training in historical sexual abuse, grief, loss, and the trauma related to life-limiting illness. I've also completed further training in trauma, sexual trauma, child loss, and working with children and young people.

My Specialisms

As a counsellor, I work from a person-centred approach and am trauma-informed in my practice. I specialise in supporting clients through trauma, including historical and sexual trauma, grief, loss, and the emotional impact of life-limiting illness—both for individuals facing a diagnosis and those who have experienced bereavement. I have also undertaken additional training in child loss and in working with children and young people.

In my work, I support clients experiencing a wide range of challenges, including symptoms of anxiety, depression, low mood, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, family issues, and bereavement. I also have experience in working with trauma-related responses such as flashbacks, dissociation, and PTSD. My aim is always to offer a safe, empathetic, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace and feel truly heard and supported throughout your healing journey.

Approach to Counselling & How I Work

As a person-centred counsellor, my approach is grounded in empathy, honesty, and unconditional positive regard. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to provide a supportive, non-judgemental space where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.
Sessions are led by you — there is no pressure, agenda, or expectation. Instead, we work collaboratively, focusing on what feels most important or relevant to you in the moment. I offer gentle guidance and support, helping you to develop greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and clarity. My trauma-informed approach means I work sensitively with difficult or painful experiences, always with care, respect, and a focus on emotional safety.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and are typically held weekly. I offer in-person counselling, online sessions, and walk and talk therapy for those who find being outdoors calming and grounding. Whether you're looking for short-term support or longer-term work, we will move at a pace that feels right for you.
