About me

My Integrative approach to therapy enables me to work with flexibility, tailoring the therapy to work specifically with the issues you bring. I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space, where in time you will feel able to open up and communicate at a personal and intimate level. I have a strong belief that therapeutic change is enabled through the relationship that builds between the therapist and client. Through this unique experience of relationship you will gain insight into your thoughts, feelings and emotions. I will offer you an opportunity to: Develop resources and stratagies to enable you to feel stronger, confident and more resilient in the present. Explore and work through unresolved past experiences, allowing you a greater sense of freedom in the present. Think about the relationship you have with yourself enabling you to develop self awareness and recognise your own needs. Explore the role you play in the relationships you have. Challenge negatives beliefs you hold about yourself. Make sense of the thoughts and feelings that are causing you difficulty, enabling you to feel more in control of you life.

Experience

I am a fully qualified Integrative counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Since completing my initial counselling training in 2007 I have been actively committed to continuous professional development. I am also an EMDR Practitioner accredited by EMDR Europe and EMDR Association UK and Ireland. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing. EMDR is a form psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences. The EMDR procedure was originally developed by a clinical psychologist named Francine Shapiro and used in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. EMDR has been increasingly used over the years to treat e.g. grief, phobias, test and performance anxiety, recovery from sexual abuse, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, panic, anger, pain, jealousy, sexual dysfunction, low self esteem and lack of confidence. My Approach

As everybody is different in their needs and their approach to life, an integrative theraputic approach enables me to work with a variety of issues, where the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is central to the theraputic process. I provide all of my clients with a warm, confidential and non-judgmental space, always allowing the client to guide me in providing the right kind of support. Some clients may find it helpful to explore their past, especially their childhood experience. I integrate my theoretical knowledge and tailor each session to match each clients unique needs. My experience has shown me that although therapy cannot get rid of a painful past, it can help people to develop a greater depth of understanding and self acceptance. When an individual gains acceptance of themselves, self esteem and confidence will grow and life changes occur. I offer open ended and short term counselling depending on the clients individual needs.
