About me

I provide Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) and Equine Facilitated Therapy (EFT) for individuals and groups within a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment. My aim is to create a therapeutic space where clients feel supported to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences at a pace that feels appropriate to them.

My approach is person-centred and tailored to the unique needs of each client. I draw upon extensive experience supporting individuals to develop emotional resilience, enhance self-awareness, improve coping strategies, and work towards meaningful personal goals that promote psychological wellbeing and positive life changes.

Sessions are delivered in partnership with Amy, my equine co-facilitator, whose calm and intuitive presence supports the therapeutic process by encouraging reflection, emotional regulation, and authentic engagement.

I hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate and comprehensive professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Amy is also fully insured.

Experience

I am a qualified and accredited Equine-Assisted Practitioner, with a strong academic background in forensic psychology and mental health, alongside more than 30 years of experience owning, caring for, and working with horses.

My professional journey has brought together my academic knowledge, experience within mental health settings, and a deep understanding of the unique relationship between humans and horses. I hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Forensic Psychology and a Master of Science (MSc) in Forensic Psychology & Mental Health. I am currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, further developing my knowledge and clinical understanding of psychological wellbeing, therapeutic practice, and human development.

I hold an Equine Therapy Certification, accredited by ICAHP, IPHM, CMA, CPD and NCCAP, and I am currently completing the Equi-Connections Level 3 Diploma, accredited by ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists). I have also completed the Equi-Connections Diploma Level 2 (EFL), accredited by ACCPH.

My practice is informed by a trauma-informed approach, shaped by my experience of working within mental health settings and as a Wellbeing Practitioner. I aim to create a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment where individuals can explore their experiences, develop self-awareness, build confidence, and reconnect with their own strengths and potential.

I am the founder of Purshall Green Wellbeing, where I bring together my academic training, professional experience, and lifelong connection with horses. I am passionate about the unique alchemy that can emerge between practitioner and horse, creating opportunities for individuals to experience connection, insight, and personal growth in ways that may not always be possible through traditional approaches alone.

At the heart of my work is the belief that every individual has the potential to grow and flourish. Through the presence and partnership of the horse, I seek to facilitate a space where people can develop a deeper understanding of themselves, discover their strengths, and move towards reaching their full potential.

Specialisms

My specialist area is Equine-Facilitated Learning (EFL) and Equine-Facilitated Therapy (EFT), offering a unique, experiential approach that combines psychological and emotional wellbeing with the powerful experience of working alongside horses.

You do not ride the horse. Sessions involve activities such as grooming, feeding, leading, and working together to navigate carefully considered tasks and obstacles. Horses provide immediate, honest, and non-judgemental feedback through their responses to our behaviour and body language. This can help you develop greater self-awareness, explore emotional responses, recognise unhelpful patterns, and discover new ways of thinking and coping.

I offer one-to-one and small-group sessions, supporting individuals with anxiety, emotional regulation, grief and loss, trauma, low self-esteem, confidence, relationship difficulties, boundaries, life transitions, resilience, and personal development.

My practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, and neurodivergent-affirming. I recognise that everyone is unique, and I aim to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace.

Through the partnership between you, the horse, and the practitioner, equine-facilitated work can create opportunities for insight, connection, self-discovery, and meaningful personal growth.

My Approach

My approach is person-centred, compassionate, and non-pathologising. As a Trainee Counselling Psychologist, I believe in seeing the whole person rather than defining someone by a diagnosis, difficulty, or set of symptoms. I work collaboratively with you, recognising that you are the expert in your own experience, and I aim to create a safe, accepting, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and aspirations at your own pace.

I offer face-to-face sessions, with my therapy horse, Amy, present during appointments. Amy offers an additional presence and can become an important part of the therapeutic experience, supporting the unique connection and feedback that can emerge through equine-facilitated work. You do not need any previous experience with horses, and there is no requirement to ride.

My work is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, and neurodivergent-affirming, and I adapt my approach to meet your individual needs. Through Equine-Facilitated Learning (EFL) and Equine-Facilitated Therapy (EFT), we can explore areas such as stress, anxiety, low mood and depression, confidence and self-esteem, trauma, emotional regulation, sleep difficulties, grief, relationships, and wider wellbeing.

I offer sessions on selected weekdays, evenings, and weekends, based near Droitwich, Worcestershire (WR9).

If you would like to find out more about EFL/EFT and whether this approach might be right for you, please get in touch for a no-obligation chat. I would be happy to answer any questions and talk through what you are looking for and how I may be able to support you.
