Through a therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect, I will support you in developing your own resources -improving your quality of life.

"I chose to become a counsellor through having a poor experience in a counselling session many years ago. I decided then I didn't want others to experience what I had. I believe strongly in the counselling process, and that each individual has the ability and resources within them to create the life they want"

Relationship counselling is the process of counselling the parties of a relationship in an effort to recognize and to better manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating patterns of distress. The relationship involved may be between members of a family or a couple (see also family therapy), employees or employers in a workplace, or between a professional and a client.

Couple therapy (or relationship therapy) is a related and different process. It may differ from relationship counselling in duration. Short term counselling may be between 1 to 3 sessions whereas long term couples therapy may be between 12 and 24 sessions. An exception is brief or solution focused couples therapy. In addition, counselling tends to be more 'here and now' and new coping strategies the outcome. Couples therapy is more about seemingly intractable problems with a relationship history, where emotions are the target and the agent of change.

Marriage counselling or marital therapy can refer to either or some combination of the above.

Approach to Psychotherapy & How I Work

The types of counselling I deliver are Psychodynamic or Psychotherapeutic, Person Centred, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Mindfulness.

Psychodynamic or Psychotherapeutic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed a psychodynamic theory according to which personality consists of the id (responsible for instincts and pleasure-seeking), the superego (which attempts to obey the rules of parents and society), and the ego (which mediates between them according to the demands of reality). Psychodynamic theories commonly hold that childhood experiences shape personality. Such theories are associated with psychoanalysis, a type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires.

The three models I work with, I believe complement each other. I use them according to the client's needs. we work together to help you understand better and facilitate a positive outcome.

Person/Client-Centred Counselling is the belief that the clients know what is best for them, they need time, space, facilitation from a professional and the use of the three core conditions listed below to ensure success.

According to Rogers (1979), there are three conditions that facilitate this growth: 1) Genuineness/Realness/Congruence; 2) Acceptance/Caring/Unconditional Positive Regard, and 3) Empathic Understanding.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.

CBT cannot remove your problems but can help you manage them in a more positive way. It encourages you to examine how your actions can affect how you think and feel.

Talking and changing your behaviour can change how you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour). This can make you feel better about life.
