I am Joanna, a psychotherapist working one-to-one with adults in the London Bridge area.
I have an integrative training which includes person-centred, Gestalt, psycho-dynamic, CFT and CBT modalities. I specialise in Existential psychotherapy. This means that I am able to make use of a number of different approaches, adapting the work to meet your needs.
Post Graduate Diploma in Existential Psychology and Psychotherapy, New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling
Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, Regent's University
Diploma in Psychotherapy and Hypnosis, Psychotherapy and Hypnosis Training Association
Certificate in Counselling Skills, Tower Hamlets College
I have experience in the voluntary sector working with people struggling through a difficult pregnancy, with pregnancy loss and parents who are grieving the death of a baby.
In private practice I meet people struggling with workplace stress and bullying; issues resulting from marginalisation and complexities within relationships.
I am experienced in working with people who are impacted by the burdens of a chronic health condition - whether their own or someone they care for - and those facing life-changing diagnoses, (in particular, stroke, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, gut and bowel conditions, and cancer) coping with bereavement and loss, anxiety and depression, and those who are struggling with the meaning and direction of their lives.
Outside private practice I work for the NHS as a specialist oncology and palliative care psychotherapist in Bart's and the Royal London hospitals.
Psychotherapy is a space to reflect upon what is happening in your life and how you feel about yourself. It is a confidential setting in which we will work together to create a relationship where you feel safe to explore the areas of your life in which you feel troubled, unhappy or unsatisfied.
I can support you to recognise patterns of behaviour which feel stuck, and explore the ways in which these may no longer meet your needs. In recognising these patterns you can become free to make different choices and live your life in a more fulfilling way. Identifying areas where you can make changes, and also where you cannot, allows you to become aware of different possibilities, recognising where adjustments may benefit you and your relationships.
Whether this is your first experience of therapy, you are returning to address new circumstances, or whether you want to look again at issues you have not yet resolved, I can help you begin to make sense of the situation you are in and your responses to your world and the people who matter to you.
We can meet for a fixed number of sessions or for a longer, open-ended period of time. We will check in with one another and review this as we progress through sessions.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their code of ethics.
