About me

I am a qualified and experienced integrative, embodied-relational and wild psychotherapist, counsellor, supervisor and trainer, working in Bethnal Green, in central London. I also work online, by phone and outdoors. I work with individual adults, either on an open-ended basis or for an agreed amount of time. However we meet, my aim is to provide a warm, confidential and non-judgmental environment in which to explore what brings you here and which parts of you are waiting to be met. I have been in private practice for over ten years. I am a member of UKCP and abide by its code of ethical practice. People seek therapy for all sorts of reasons. It may be a specific crisis or problem that you want help with, you may wish to get in touch with yourself at a deeper level, to try to unravel the patterns that seem to hold you back, or you may see it as an opportunity for personal development. You might also want to explore the 'wilder' parts of you, those parts that have become domesticated and feel lost. I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, feelings of disconnection, communication difficulties, work-related problems, panic attacks, trauma, abuse, childhood sexual abuse, illness, bereavement, loss, grief, relationship difficulties, loneliness, self-esteem issues, spirituality, sexuality and sex-related problems. I work with adults of all ages. I am committed to anti-oppressive practice and welcome those from marginalised groups. My therapy room is wheelchair-accessible and close to a range of public transport options.

Experience

I trained at the Minster Centre in London, from where I qualified with an MA and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling. Further training has led to an Advanced Diploma in Embodied Relational Therapy, a Diploma in Ecotherapy, a certificate in Wild Therapy and a certificate in shamanic healing practices. I am also a trained practitioner of AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy), a gentle but effective way of working with trauma, using the body's energy system. I offer clinical supervision to individuals and groups, having trained with Robin Shohet and Joan Wilmot at CSTD. My integrative training means that I can adapt my way of working to suit each client's unique needs, which may change as we work together. I am interested in how our experiences from the past shape our present, in terms of relationships, self-image and self-beliefs. I work empathically with my clients, with an awareness of both what has happened and what is happening in the here-and-now. I pay attention to what is happening between us as well as what you are experiencing with your breath and body, and may use mindfulness exercises to help you to stay in the present. I am interested in different communication styles and the different ways in which we frame our experiences. I aim to help you to discover more about your self and to facilitate your growth in self-awareness and authenticity. I am experienced in working with adults of all ages, from students to post-retirement. I have previously worked as a counsellor at One in Four, a charity supporting survivors of sexual abuse in childhood, at the Minster Centre's low-cost therapy service and at a low-cost therapy service in south London. I previously volunteered as a group facilitator at a psychiatric hospital, running reading and gardening groups with inpatients. I am a member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy and abide by its code of professional ethics. I am committed to regular continuing professional development to keep me up to date with current practice. I have trained in ecotherapy (or wild therapy), which encourages us to consider our relationship with the natural world and challenges our polarisation of 'wildness' and 'domesticity'. I have recently completed a training in supervision and offer this to individuals and groups, indoors, online or, by arrangement, outdoors.

Specialisms

I am experienced in working with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, work-related problems, panic attacks, trauma, abuse, childhood sexual abuse, bereavement, loss, relationship difficulties, loneliness, illness, self-esteem issues, sexuality and sex-related problems.

My Approach

As an integrative and body-oriented psychotherapist and counsellor I draw on different models of working, including relational psychotherapy, body psychotherapy, attachment theory, psychodynamic approaches, dream work, and a number of creative approaches. Each client is unique and there is no 'one size fits all'. I will be interested in your relationship history, including your earliest experiences, to help us to understand your experiences and how you relate in the world now. Observations on our therapeutic relationship will also help us to understand the nature of your relationships with others. I work with awareness of what is happening with breath and within the body. We may sometimes work creatively, with visual aids, with dreams, with visualisation and with grounding exercises, which can be particularly helpful in managing anxiety. I am a practitioner of AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy), which is a gentle but effective way of working with the originating causes of current difficulties and promoting recovery and a feeling of well-being.
