Hello. Choosing a counsellor or therapist can be a daunting experience at what may be already a difficult time for you. In a nutshell, I offer a safe, confidential and collaborative space where you can bring whatever is troubling you. Together we can explore what's going on, at a pace that's right for you. I hope you'll feel able to be and become yourself with me, whoever you are and whatever has happened in your life. I offer both support and challenge, without judgment. I don't offer advice; I will champion your autonomy and your capacity to make choices.
People come to counselling and psychotherapy for many different reasons. You may be feeling overwhelmed by a current situation at work or in a relationship. You may be dealing with loss, grief, depression, anxiety, loneliness, fear, anger or addiction. You may be struggling with persistent and unwanted thoughts, feelings or behaviours. You may be haunted by past experiences that overshadow your present and future. Or you may simply want more joy and fulfilment out of life and wonder what gets in the way. I have experience of working with clients on all of these issues and many more and I'm open to working with whatever you bring. If I don't think I'm best placed to help you, I will say so.
I offer both short-term and open-ended work, and we can discuss what may best suit you at this time.
I currently offer sessions in person, on Zoom or over the phone.
I have an MA and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
I am an EMDR Europe accredited EMDR practitioner. I’m also qualified to practise Flash Technique and I’m trained in DBR.
I also have a history degree, life experience, and extensive experience of working in the television industry.
I specialise in working with trauma and PTSD and am trained in EMDR, Flash Technique and DBR.
I have training in and experience of working with clients on a range of issues including: abuse, addiction, anxiety, bereavement, depression, dissociation, disordered eating, family issues, relationship issues, workplace issues, stress, and trauma.
I'm a qualified, registered, integrative psychotherapist, which means I'm trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, including Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Attachment theory, Body and contemporary relational psychotherapy, and I integrate a combination of these different approaches to best work in relationship with you as a unique individual.
Integrative counselling and psychotherapy are also about personal integration - that is, becoming aware of, coming to terms with and integrating different parts of ourselves and our experiences so we can feel more whole both in mind and body. This is an empowering process (and at times an uncomfortable one) that can liberate us from limiting thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and free us to make choices. At the heart of my approach is an awareness of what's happening in the here-and-now between us. Some of your habitual patterns of relating outside the room are more than likely to show up in it, and these can be safely explored in the context of our therapeutic relationship.
Whatever the therapeutic approach, research shows that ‘the therapeutic alliance' is what makes therapy effective - that is, your confidence in me and in the therapy. So choosing a counsellor/psychotherapist you feel you can work with - and who feels they can help you - is important. I suggest having a session with me to discuss what's brought you to counselling and to see what it's like to talk with me, before deciding whether to continue. If we decide not to work together, I will not charge you for this session.
