I have worked with Relate and also been in Private Practice as a Therapeutic Counsellor for about 30 years and so have a great deal of experience counselling couples / individuals with relationship issues.
I do however, offer sessions covering a wide variety of other issues and in the past 8 years, I have developed an interest in counselling people who have had traumatic events in their lifetime.
I offer both face to face counselling and online / telephone counselling.
I am a Relate trained counsellor with over 30 years of experience, working in private practice and until recently as a Relate licensed counsellor. I am an accredited member of BACP and abide by the BACP Code of Ethics.
I am also a Resolution qualified family consultant so can work with families who are going through the process of separation or divorce. A family consultant is trained to work therapeutically with families and their children to help prevent past experiences getting in the way of a workable and respectful resolution for all concerned.
I specialise in supporting individuals and couples through the emotional challenges that relationships can bring, including relationship anxiety, trust issues, infidelity, emotional disconnection, and communication breakdowns.
Although my speciality is in relationship work, I can offer help in other areas of work such as
• Anxiety
• depression
• stress
• problems with work or student life
• loss or bereavement
• difficulty with issues relating to events in the past
• anger management
• self esteem
• autism spectrum
• OCD
I work from an office near Whitehaven in Cumbria and use my experience to tailor my work to suit different clients. As well as offering face to face sessions, I also offer telephone /online sessions for adults across the UK and although I am based in the UK I can offer, where appropriate, relationship counselling to English-speaking adults living abroad.
I am flexible with appointment times as many of the people who come to see me, work shifts and so I try and fit in with them. I also work weekends as I find people who work all week sometimes prefer to come then.
I offer a free introductory phone call to discuss the therapy process and to see if I might be the right therapist for a client.
In the first session I include a sort of assessment of what has or is happening for the couple or individual. I then share the type of work I believe is going to be necessary and it is then the choice of the client(s) whether to continue with further counselling or not.
It is important to me that people feel comfortable working with me and, by doing this within the first session, I feel it gives everyone a chance to get to know each other before moving forward with the counselling.
My objective is not only to help clients overcome their problems, but also to give them tools and techniques which will enable them in the future to benefit from the sessions they attend.
Clients can attend sessions weekly, fortnightly, or as suits their need. Sometimes a single session can help to bring clarity or focus on an issue.
I do not ask for any minimum commitments
