About me

Hello and welcome - I’m Roland, a holistic therapist based in Birmingham, with over 20 years of experience helping people move better, feel better, and live pain-free through Bowen therapy, sports massage, and specialist movement education.

My Background

My therapy career began in 2003, when I qualified in Sports Massage and Personal Training. Over time, I realised that to truly help people recover and stay well, I needed to go beyond treating surface symptoms. This led me to train as a fully certified Bowen Therapy practitioner, a gentle yet powerful technique that supports the body’s natural ability to heal.

Today, I combine hands-on treatment with movement-based therapy and self-care education - empowering my clients to understand their bodies, prevent future issues, and maintain long-term wellbeing.

Experience and Clients

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of clients - from elite performers to local community members. My professional experience includes:

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Hall major artists

National Shukokai Karate Team

Numerous internationally recognised musicians and rock bands through Dr. Dot’s global therapy team (drdot.com)

I also collaborate with a community interest company, providing therapeutic treatments for people managing anxiety and depression - supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing.

My Approach

My approach to treatment is holistic and results-focused. Whether you come in with shoulder pain, back tension, or chronic discomfort, I look beyond the immediate symptoms to identify the root cause.

By treating the body as an integrated system, we can create long-term solutions instead of temporary fixes. I also offer tailored aftercare, stretching, and movement advice so you can take positive steps between sessions.

When additional support is needed, I work closely with a trusted local network of practitioners to ensure you receive the best and most complete care possible.

Why I Love This Work

I’ve always been fascinated by people - how we move, adapt, and heal. Helping someone rediscover comfort, confidence, and freedom in their body is what drives me every day. Seeing clients progress, regain balance, and thrive is the most rewarding part of my work.

If you’re looking for Bowen therapy, sports massage, or holistic bodywork in Birmingham, I’d love to help you release tension, repair movement, and restore balance.

Thank you for visiting,

– Roland

My Approach

Initially I begin with a full consultation which helps me and the client find out where the problem may have come from. This can last anything from 15 mins to an hour depending on how complex the issue is. Once this is done I visually assess the person to see what I can notice. I will always look at the whole person and not just the painful/problem area as often they are all interrelated. Also I will run some tests to assess current flexibility and posture as this is always useful.

The initial treatment lasts around 40 mins. Bowen can be done through light clothing so there is no need to disrobe. A series of gentle uninvasive moves are applied using fingers and thumbs with short rest periods to allow time for the body to respond. People generally feel very relaxed once the first few moves are applied. Once this is complete I will ask them to come back in 7 days for a second treatment so we can see the changes and work out where to go from there.

When a person comes to see me with pain I look to find the route of that pain rather than treat the symptom. People are complex and quite often the reason for their pain can be complex so I endeavour to find a solution that helps them to change their life for the better.

I don't offer quick fixes I offer skillfull bodywork and education to transform a persons body and lifestyle for the better.

I also have a wide network of other excellent therapists who I can refer to to achieve the best possible outcome for the person.
